Forever Lovely for CTS313

This week’s sketch challenge from CAS(E) is a retro sketch that offers a funky and fun design. Rather than try to replicate the jagged, diagonal layout of the sketch, I reached for my Lovely Flowers Edgelits Dies (part of the Forever Lovely Bundle) to build a beautiful floral design at the center of my card. Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

And here’s the banner for challenge CTS313 (a retro challenge CTS155) that inspired my card (this challenge goes live at 10:30am EST):

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Forever Lovely. If I had to pick a beautiful bundle from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog that is under-utilized and under-showcased, I’d have to go with the Forever Lovely Bundle. This incredible bundle is the first bundle in the catalog, so maybe people are so excited to get into the book that they pass it over? It’s showcased with other Valentine’s Day sets, but it’s certainly not limited to February. Here’s a look at the Forever Lovely Bundle: Forever Lovely Bundle, Stampin' Up!, 150580The sentiment on my card is from the All Adorned stamp set – a must-have stamp set from the Second Release of Sale-a-Bration products. So many great sentiments and images in this fun set:All Adorned, Stampin' Up! 149728
  • Layering the Sentiment. I really wanted my sentiment to stand out against this sweet, soft backdrop. I stamped the “lots of love” sentiment on Pool Party cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and punched it out with my 1-1/4″ Circle punch. I framed that with a Thick Whisper White circle from the Layering Circles Framelits Dies. The heart is my favorite one (I use it lots) from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies and adds a pop of color to the card. All of those are layered over a 2″ Circle punch of Vellum Cardstock. Here’s a closer look at the sentiment:Forever Lovely Bundle, All Adorned, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe photo of the sentiment layers also showcase how gorgeous the Lovely Flowers Framelits Dies are – especially against the Grapefruit Grove cardstock that was embossed with the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • Sweet Colors. I love this mix of sweet, soft colors. While the Lovely Lipstick heart adds a bold pop of colors, it’s the mix of Pool Party, Grapefruit Grove and Crumb Cake that define the feel of this card. If you like this combination of Pool Party, Grapefruit Grove and Crumb Cake as much as I do, please save this:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Pool Party, Grapefruit Grove, Crumb Cake

  1. I have to say Brian that I love your color combinations a lot. The way you add them to the card is wonderful.

    • Thanks so much, Deepa! Sometimes I find that it’s easiest to limit the number of colors in a project and accent with pops of other colors every once in a while. I’m so glad you like them.

  2. To me the diecut rose edge is beautiful in any color. Love your color combo with the sweet heart giving an extra pop. Have a great day!

  3. LOVE your take on the jagged, diagonal layout of the sketch. The Lovely Flowers Edgelits Dies work perfectly for this layout. Great card my friend.

  5. Brian, you did an amazing job with a challenging sketch! Love that pop of red with your color combo.

    • Thanks so much, Dawn! It needed something to help pop that sentiment – the lipstick red heart gave me exactly what I needed. So glad you like it. ♥

  6. Stunning rose die cut on the diagonal and I love the simple layering with the heart! The font for lots of love is darling!

  7. I love how you used the Lovely Flowers Framelit at an angle. Nice touch. Card is great!
