Brighter Days for GDP181

Some colors are chameleons – they change their nature when paired with new colors. They take on new characteristics and can change color families in different scenarios. That makes color so fun to play with. As an example, Lemon Lime Twist is bright and cheery when it stands beside Daffodil Delight, but it’s muted and soft next to Pool Party. The colors in this week’s Global Design Project challenge shifted back-and-forth between bright and soft while I was making this sweet pick-me-up card:

Lemon Zest, Beautiful You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, pick-me-up card

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Grapefruit Grove, Lemon Lime Twist, Daffodil DelightTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Lemon Zest and Beautiful You. My card pulls some great products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. While my card started with the 1-1/4″ strips of cardstock on the background panel, I was excited to see that the Lemon Zest stamp set could help me pull all three of the colors from this challenge into the project. Yay! Here’s a look at the Lemon Zest stamp set:  Lemon Zest, Stampin' Up! 143808The sentiment on the lemon is from the Beautiful You stamp set – was so happy to find how perfectly that lift-me-up sentiment worked with the lemon and these bright colors. Here’s a look at the amazing Beautiful You stamp set:Beautiful You, Stampin' Up! 143637
  • Citrus Collage. Each of the elements on the top panel of this card are inked up, stamped off once (for a lighter look) and punched with the Lemon Builder Punch and 1-3/4″. Here’s a closer look:Lemon Zest, Beautiful You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, pick-me-up cardI glued the Lemon Lime Twist leaves together and then glued them to the Crumb Cake base. I glued the grapefruit and lemon together and then popped them up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. They perfectly overlapped the sides of the squares, pulling the colors from the base strips into the focal image of the card. Yay!
  • Layers. I played around with this card for quite some time before I was happy with it – that’s my kind of play time – and I’ll share more about that journey in a post later this week. The layers I ended up with on this finished project were simple and worked well, so I wanted to share them with you here. Starting with the base and working my way up, here are the layers on this card:
    • Crumb Cake – 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ – that’s a square card that will fit perfectly into a Medium Envelope, which means you don’t have to pay additional shipping to send it. ♥
    • Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Grapefruit Grove – 1-1/4″ x 3-3/4″ strips of each of these colors were layered on a 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ panel of Whisper White
    • Whisper White – 2-5/8″ square cropped from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies
    • Crumb Cake – 2-1/8″ square cropped from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies
    • Thick Whisper White – punched with Lemon Builder punch and 1-3/4″ Circle punch

Stamp Sets: Lemon Zest, Beautiful You  Papers:  Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Grapefruit Grove, Whisper White, Thick Whisper White  Inks: Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Grapefruit Grove, Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories: Lemon Builder punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
