Father’s Day cards can be tricky. While you want to capture something the man likes on the card you make for him, a Father’s Day card doesn’t always have to feature fish, golf, ties or cars. AND it doesn’t have to be brown. For this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, I made a card that’s perfect for the active father in your life. Change up the sentiment, and it’s also perfect for ANY active, adventurous person. How cool is that?! Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the Chrissy Larson’s challenging challenge that inspired my card:
- Seize the Day. The images on my card are from Seize the Day, a Distinktive stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. Not only are the sentiments in this set amazing, but the Distinktive images are perfect for layering and oh-so-fun to stamp. Here’s a look at this wonderful stamp set: As you can see when you click on the promotional flyer below, Stampin’ Up!’s Distinktive Stamps create different opacities in a single, stamped image for a gorgeous outcome: April’s Paper Pumpkin Kit will include Distinktive stamps. - World’s Best Father. It’s the sentiment on this card that makes it special for Father’s Day – and I pulled that sentiment from one of the most versatile sets in either catalog – Itty Bitty Greetings. I punched the sentiment with the Classic Label Punch and then snipped the pointed edges off for a clean look that fit perfectly inside my landscape. Here’s a closer look at the front of my card:And here’s a look at the variety of itty bitty greetings in Itty Bitty Greetings:How many occasions can you count in this amazing set?
- Color Combination. Cards for men don’t have to be colorless. There’s nothing particularly masculine or feminine about this mix of greens and powder blue – they are bright, brilliant and a wonderful way to celebrate that adventurous someone you love. If you like this combination of Balmy Blue, Lemon Lime Twist and Shaded Spruce as much as I do, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Seize the Day, Itty Bitty Greetings Papers: Lemon Lime Twist, Balmy Blue, Thick Whisper White Inks: Lemon Lime Twist, Shaded Spruce Accessories: Classic Label Punch, Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Great color combination (as always!) I love how the hiker is contemplating the precipice – jump? not jump? But, I digress. Great card.
Thanks, Dianne! 🙂 I think he’s asking “I’ve reached the end…now what?” If he’s a dad, he’s also contemplating the level of quiet that exists in this space. 🙂 Hope your day is wonderful.
if he’s a dad, I go with Dianne’s take… jump or not jump?…. lol
🙂
This would be a great card for my two sons-in-law! Thanks for drawing my attention to Seize the Day. And I love your color palette!
Thanks so much, Susan! I love these colors and was happy that they came together so beautifully. I’m sure your sons-in-law will love a card like this. Thanks!
What a great, fun Father’s Day card, Brian. Love it in greens with the Balmy Blue bands. I agree with your idea that masculine cards don’t have to be brown. This is a great example of that. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks so much, Hilda! I’m on a mission to change people’s minds about colors on a masculine cards. 🙂 So glad you like these colors on this card. ♥
You just gave me a great idea for cards for our Boy Scout’s second annual “Peace Begins With Me” Pilgrimage. Thanks Brian!
Oooh! This set would be perfect for that, Dawn! Can’t wait to see what you make! ♥

You pick the perfect image for this sketch. Cool card and yes, it does not have to be BROWN! ha
Thanks, Windy! I spent a lot of time flipping through the catalogs and contemplating what I’d use for this sketch. So glad you like my choices. ♥
You always manage to nudge a color palette in a beautiful and artistic way. Love how the leaves create the forest!
Thanks so much, Mary! I’ve been working with Lemon Lime Twist a lot lately – it helps to brighten things up a lot. ♥
love your take on “thinking outside of the box” with the color palette. all too often we pigeon hole ourselves with the so-called “traditional” colors. thanks for inspiring us with a fresh outlook. my interpretation: he got to the end & said “uh-oh”…. lol
🙂 Thanks so much, Dara! I really enjoyed making this card and playing with these colors. Glad you like it.
Beautiful job with that funky sketch! Fabulous colors and a gorgeous scene!
Thanks so much, Linda! Had fun with it – and, yes, it’s funky. ♥
Oh my gosh Brian! How did I ever overlook this stamp set? Both my girls are avid hikers. I think sometimes we get so excited and caught up with Sale-A-Bration and the Occasions catalogs that we forget about the annual catalog for a while. Now I will HAVE to HAVE this set. Thanks so much Brian.
It’s a great set, Grace, and such fun to play with. I cropped the trees to isolate it to this smaller space which made the images feel even bigger in scope. You’ll love this set. ♥
That you really nice—and you’re right—it doesn’t have to be brown to be masculine! Amazing what ruts we get ourselves into.
Thanks so much! I’ve been pushing that for years, and I’m happy when I see brighter cards for boys and men. Thanks!
Sorry—that should have read “that is really nice”!
♥
This is so clever. I think that image is really good and like that you can interpret it in so many ways. Love your card design and your interpretation of the sketch.
Thanks so much, Nora! I really enjoyed inking up this set. ♥
