With the FabFriday color challenge that kicks off today, it’s hard to make a card that’s not overflowing with cheer. Bermuda Bay, Flirty Flamingo, Lemon Lime Twist and Highland Heather are a gorgeous combination that’s perfect for any Spring celebration. Here’s my card for this color challenge:
And here’s the banner for the color challenge that inspired my bright and beautiful card:
My card is designed with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches card layout, too! Here’s a look at the banner for this card challenge:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Tick Tock. Sale-a-Bration comes to an end this weekend – and I don’t want you to miss out on the opportunity to earn some amazing products that are part of the Sale-a-Bration offerings. Two Sale-a-Bration items (each can be chosen for free with a $50 purchase): the All Adorned stamp set and the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper. The amazing sentiment on this card and the patterned background are from the All Adorned stamp set. Here’s a closer look:
The stripes along the side of the focal panel are a favorite pattern from the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper. Here’s a closer look:
- Make it Your Own. Here’s what I love most about the black-and-white patterns in the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper – we have an opportunity to redesign the paper and make it our own. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper:
While the black-and-white pages are perfectly lovely for a bold background pattern, the addition of a little color can turn them into a brand new design. I simply colored a small panel of the striped paper with my Stampin’ Write Markers to add all four of these great colors to the side panel of my card. - Stamping Off. I didn’t want the patterns in the background of my Highland Heather panel to boldly stand out on the card, but I definitely wanted the pattern there. After I inked up the photopolymer stamp with Highland Heather ink, I lightly tapped the stamp on scrap paper before stamping it on this card panel.
You’ve likely noticed, but stamping off with photopolymer stamps is a bit different from stamping of with red rubber. Red rubber holds more ink after a stamp is stamped off than photopolymer stamps, so be sure to LIGHTLY stamp off with photopolymer stamps.
Stamp Sets: All AdornedĀ Papers: Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper, Bermuda Bay, Highland Heather, Flirty Flamingo, Thick Whisper WhiteĀ Inks: Highland Heather, Basic Black, Stampin’ Write Markers (Highland Heather, Flirty Flamingo, Lemon Lime Twist, Bermuda BayĀ Accessories: Layering Circles Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Fab Friday site and to the Freshly Made Sketches site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

ingenious once again with altering the dsp to match the color challenge. it amazes me how you think. my mind just doesn’t go there. I’ve got to stretch my grey matter more… lol. I LOVE the boldness yet springiness of this card!!! are you in the Atlanta area?
Thanks so much, Dara! I love to alter DSP so that it gives me just what I want. It’s a mindset, though. š Thanks for your kind words about this card – so happy you like it! ā„ Yes, I’m in Atlanta.
Aren’t you the clever one! Wonderful idea for what I consider a challenging color combo. Have a great weekend Brian!
Thanks so much, Dawn! I flip-flopped about which colors to feature as the base and circle – but I could relax, knowing I had all four of them in the background paper. Thanks! ā„
Very cool card, Brian. Why do I never remember to color some of the Designer Paper? Thanks for the reminder!
If I see a black-and-white patterned paper, I immediately think “how can I stamp on it or color it?” Ha! Thanks so much, Dianne! ā„
Well, I must admit I am surprised that I did not think to color the stripes !! Thank you Capt. Creative !! This is a great card for new ideas
I just love this dsp because it is so versatile .
Happy Friday !!
(thnx for the stamping off tip about the stamp differences !)
It’s such an easy way to get more out of this awesome paper! So glad you like it, Sonny! Thanks for your sweet comments! ā„

Thanks, Windy! Lots of brilliant colors in this challenge – couldn’t help but to have fun with them.
SERIOUSLY LOVE how you redesigned the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper and made it YOUR OWN. Brilliant my friend.
Awww…thanks, my friend! I do love me some black and white paper – the options are endless.
Adore how you stamped on Flirty Flamingo and that little strip of stripe on the side is artful and fun!
Thanks, Mary! Wasn’t sure how the colorful strip would turn out, but it gave me just what I wanted. ā„
Boy, oh boy, iām Wasting a percentage of my brain. AND, it obvious that you are using a great deal more than most of us! ? coloring the DSP once again is so smart!
Ha! You almost always get excited when I stamp on or color DSP, Katrina! You might need to schedule some time to do it yourself. ā„ Thanks, my friend!
What a clever way to bring in all the colors in the challenge. Love the bright, sweet card. Enjoy your day!
Thanks so much, Hilda! I really loved these colors! ā„
Color challenges always, always intimidate me, my brain just can’t figure out how to use and combine them, especially when there are more than 2 colors that, in my mind, just can’t go together well.
But your mind eye is amazing and you immediately are able to take the challenge head-on and create something beautiful and elegant.
Thank you for sharing this fun and sweet card.
Hugs.
Awww…thanks so much, Maria! I’m so glad you like it. I have fun with colors and enjoyed color blocking the focal points of this card and coloring the stripes with all the colors. Hugs back!
The striped panel is a terrific accent! I never think to color on DSP……looks great!
Thanks, Linda! As soon as I saw the strip on the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge, I knew I’d reach for (and color) this paper. So glad you like it! ā„
These colors work beautifully together! Such a bold and graphic card! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
Thanks so much, Karren! It was a fun sketch – was so happy I could play along. Thanks! ā„
