Springtime Impressions for GDP184

It’s time for another CASE the Designer Challenge with the Global Design Project. There are so many places to find inspiration for the projects we make – I love the opportunity to create a project that’s inspired by the art of my fellow team members on GDP. Always a joy! This week we are CASEing a Spring-perfect card by my over-the-top, talented friend Allison Okamitsu.

When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all.

Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Springtime Impressions. Without trying, you can see how I was inspired by Allison’s card, right? The bright colors and the butterfly might be a little hint. While Allison showcased the Butterfly Gala Bundle in her bright-and-cheery card, I chose to showcase a different butterfly bundle – the Abstract Impressions Bundle from the Annual Catalog. Don’t get me wrong – you NEED the Butterfly Gala Bundle, but you also need this one:Abstract Impressions Bundle, Stampin' Up! 148348While I love the stamp set and the coordinating dies, I wanted a smaller sentiment for my card, so I reached for the beautiful “you are loved always” from Vibrant Vases, a wonderful and versatile set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog.Vibrant Vases, Stampin' Up!, 148656
  • Alternate Use of the Dies. While I love the triangular shape of the floral die-cut from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies (it’s perfect for tucking into the corner of a card base), I wanted to do something a little different with these dies. I ran the die through the Big Shot with Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets on the back – that allowed me to easily glue them down to a piece of Coastal Cabana. If you’d like to see my step-by-step tutorial for using these Adhesive Sheets, click on the picture below:Using Adhesive Sheets with Thin Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI glued the flowers onto this piece of cardstock and then snipped around the edges:Alternative Use of Sprintime Impressions Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe die-cut flowers serve as a perfect base for my sweet butterfly and sentiment. • Gorgeous Spring Colors. Allison showcases Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana on her card – how could I NOT make my card with these bright-and-cheery colors?! Their names, alone, are a summer day. While she used Crumb Cake as a neutral ground to her bright colors, I layered in some Smoky Slate.
