A Beautiful Day with See a Silhouette

What do you do on a beautiful day in Atlanta on the heals of a really long work week? After an impromptu lunch with family and a short nap with the bedroom door open, I popped downstairs to make a quick card that I conceived of during the short nap. Given the nature of the gorgeous day, it makes sense, too, that the card is created with Beautiful Day and a bold combinations of colors that makes me even happier than before I made it. Here’s my card:

Beautiful Day, See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Beautiful Combination. While the beautiful flower and background on my card give the appearance that I’m an amazing talent with watercolors, there’s no truth to that myth. I stamped this flower from Beautiful Day on one of the gorgeous pages in See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper, cropped it out and popped it up. Here’s a look at this great set with a bold butterfly and beautiful flower:Beautiful Day, Stampin' Up!, 151257The flower and background are part of the See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper – the pages have a color-washed look that gives the look of pigment sprinkles. • Build a Flower. It’s easy to see which paper I used for the flower petals – the same page that serves as the backdrop on this card – the pattern appears to be a mix of Poppy Parade and Real Red. Here’s a closer look:Beautiful Day, See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI popped up the flower on the card to build additional depth. Since this flower is cropped from Designer Series Paper, I glued a 2″ piece of cardstock behind the flower to give it more support. To give the leaf a green texture like the flower petals, I lined up the leaf image with the page that features color-washed hexagons. • Bold Color Combination. I tried several different colors on the background of this card to make the bold color pop. After all those attempts, I decided to pop it against itself, using the same paper as the background. A thin strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock was the perfect pop of yellow to stand out against this Poppy Parade backdrop. Crumb Cake was a neutralizer to the brightness. 1. Lovely how you used the DSP to color the flower and leaves. All the look of watercoloring without any mess.

  2. I don’t reach for Poppy Parade often enough! Gorgeous!

I would call this card “stunning”! The colors are amazing together and using the DSP gives the flower such a realistic look. Love this card Brian…

  4. Gorgeous Brian. And taking an afternoon nap is the BEST. (Can’t close my bedroom door…..cuz Monster (my cat) will sit outside the door and cry….Or play with the door stopper till I get up…..LIFE IS GOOD.)

  5. Fabulous card! You can send that to anyone at any time (not hinting). I love the leaf trick. You are just the cleverest!

    • Thanks, Dianne! I am usually a stickler for a sentiment on the card front. Finished this one without even thinking once about it. I guess it was just meant to be an all-purpose card. 🙂

  6. So pretty..you really made that Poppy pop!

  7. Great card. I love Mary’s comment about no mess. My kind of card. Enjoy your day!

  8. Such a beautiful card with bold, rich color! Honestly, this is the perfect stamp set for this DSP.

  9. Wow! The DSP is perfect for that flower. Look how smart you are lining up the lead within the honeycomb. Great way to finish the card.

    • Thanks so much, Sue! I was concerned with how I’d finish the leaf and thought I might just leave it off. When I saw the leaf would fit inside the honeycomb, I was thrilled. 🙂
