Want to see the cutest pocket to hold a gift card or business card? Of course you do – you have a creative mind that loves cool things and new adventures – it’s one of the things I love most about you.
During Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event in April (when demonstrators were first introduced to the 2019 Annual Catalog), we were shown a brilliant idea with one of the new products in the catalog – and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. The largest of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies can be layered to create the perfect pocket for a wonderful gift. Here’s my project with this brilliant idea:
How fun is that?! This is the second of the two projects I shared with the group at Louise Sharp’s Stamping by the Sea Retreat. If you missed my “overstamping” project (the first of two) on Tuesday, you can see it here. Here’s how I made it:
- I cropped a piece of Night of Navy cardstock with the the largest of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies,
- I cropped half of the die’s size from a pattern of the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the incredible colors and patterns in the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper:
- If the pattern can be used upside down, you can cut an entire piece with the die and then cut it in half (for multiples).
- If your pattern cannot be used upside down (the pattern orientation matters), then cut along the edge of your Designer Series Paper like this: If I cropped this paper with this die and then cut it in half, my pocket bases would look like this: and nobody wants that.
- Using Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue, I carefully applied glue along the outside, stitched edges of the Designer Series Paper and attached it to the cardstock base. Be careful: too much glue with seep through the stitches. You’re welcome.
- I attached a 1/2″ strip of Soft Suede cardstock along the edge of the Designer Series Paper.
- I wrapped the pocket with Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine and tied a little knot – with the banner on the front, I didn’t leave enough room for a bow.
- I slid an anchor from the Sail Away Trinkets onto the dangling twine and tied a knot to keep it attached to the twine. The steering wheel would have been just as adorable here.
- I stamped “Congrats” with the Sailing Home Dies and Night of Navy ink on Thick Whisper White ink and cropped it with the Smooth Sailing Dies – what a versatile die! Here’s a look at the Sailing Home Bundle: I popped the sentiment up with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
If you love this Come Sail Away Suite as much as I do, you should take a look at all of the items in this suite (included the bundled suite). You can see all of them here:
Bundles: Sailing Home Stamp Sets: Sailing Home Papers: Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper, Night of Navy, Soft Suede, Thick Whisper White Inks: Night of Navy Accessories: Stitched Nested Labels Dies, Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine, Sail Away Trinkets, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals
What do you think of this project? It’s pretty fun, isn’t it? I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Not only with this fun pocket hold a business card (as shown above), but a gift card fits perfectly inside the pocket, too. What fun!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Love the fun design of this card holder, Brian, using the die. Great tip on cutting the DSP and not messing up. Experience is a great teacher. I’m always learning from you. Enjoy your day!
So happy to share my findings – especially if it helps you to avoid the same small pitfalls. Thanks, Hilda! β₯
Brian, I gasped when I saw this project! Youβre right to be so pleased with how it came out. Totally adorable and smart looking! The Sail Away DSP is one of my favs.
Awww…thanks so much, Katrina! I’m so glad you like it. β₯
Such a cute project Brian, and the little anchor trinket puts it over the top!
Aren’t the trinkets the cutest? So glad you like it, Dawn!
Love this idea. I am filing it away to use for Christmas gifts.
You will really enjoy making these, Donna! Such a fun way to share a gift card! Thanks for your comments.
Love this new way of using the dies. Brilliant idea Brian!
Thanks, Sally! They are fun (and easy) to make, so that’s a bonus. π
I love this idea!! Just last week I had someone ask me for a business card and I felt like I needed something to go with it. In the past I’ve had little pouches with chocolate – but Arizona and Chocolate don’t do well together in the summer!
Thank you for sharing Brian!
You could easily tuck a couple of these in a bag and not have to worry about them being bulky – and the certainly won’t melt in your bag. π Thanks, Donna! β₯
Oh my friend I love , so classy, ??????
Tfs hugs Frenchie β₯οΈ
Thank you so much, Frenchie! They are certainly fun to make. β₯
I LOVE this Brian! You just saved me a bunch of money that I normally spend at Christmas for the gift card holders for the gift cards I buy! Yeah – more money in my pocket for SU stuff. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
I’m always happy to help you save money by purchasing more Stampin’ UP!, Grace! π So glad you like the project. β₯

Thanks so much, Linda! The concept isn’t my original idea, but the design is all me (and the amazing suite of products from Stampin’ Up!). π
Great idea Brian, exactly what I need for my business cards!
Thanks for sharing your work and instructions. Big fan!
I’m so glad you like it, Christine! Have fun with it.
I love this- we take cruises quite a bit and this would be a great way to hand out tips or random acts of kindness on the ship.
