VACATION for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Many of my Stampin’ Up! team members (not only those with blogs) share their gorgeous projects in our team’s Facebook community – there’s such amazing and inspiring creativity in this group! I’m always excited when my team’s blog hop rolls around, though, because I get to share some of their amazing work with you. I’m just as excited to see their projects as you are, and I am proud to share them with you.

InKing Royalty Blog Hop - VacationWelcome to InKing Royalty’s August Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by a single word – and this month our projects are centered around VACATION. While many are reminiscing about their summer vacations, others are looking forward to the long weekend just around the corner. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

WISH YOU WERE HERE

If ever there were a phrase that’s associated with every wonderful vacation, it would have to be “Wish you were here,” a sassy comment to your friends and family who were not able to partake in your amazing vacation. There’s a “Wish you were here” on every postcard rack. Keeping with that idea, I built my own “Wish you were here” card  with some amazing Stampin’ Up! products. Here’s my card for today’s InKing Royalty Blog Hop:

Broadway Birthday, Friend Like You, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sentiment Builder. There’s no current stamp set (that I could find) that says, “Wish you were here” so I had to reach into my collection of stamps to find a fun way to showcase these words. The big WISH from Broadway Birthday (I love this set!) was a great place to start. Here’s a look at the Broadway Birthday stamp set:Broadway Birthday, Stampin' Up! 147067I rounded out the sentiment by building my words on a thin strip of Sahara Sand cardstock. That allowed me to center the phrase along the oval before snipping the edges. I used the tiny print letters from the Make a Difference Stamp Set:Make a Difference, Stampin' Up!, 146676Here’s a tip I shared a while back with a retired small-letters stamp set that shows how I built the letters on this card, too:Clear Block G with Labeler Alphabet stamp set, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Vacation Backdrop. The sentiment I built is important on this card, but the sentiment does not stand alone on this card. Here’s a closer look:Broadway Birthday, Friend Like You, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAlong a panel of Whisper White cardstock, I stamped palm trees over and over with Soft Suede trunks and Old Olive palms using the Friend like You stamp set. I added a small, sandy base that lines up perfectly with the top of the sentiment strip. Here’s a look at the Friend Like You bundle:Friend Like You Bundle, Stampin' Up! 151084
  • Sand and Sky. The Sahara Sand base layer that sits on a Soft Suede card base showcases a beautiful pattern from the Woven Threads Designer Series Paper that gives a textured, but soft, backdrop for this sentiment. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of paper:  Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 149497If you like this color combination of Pool Party, Sahara Sand and Soft Suede, please save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! 1. You made the perfect card for the theme! I love everything about it. Plus your design would work with a lot of sentiments as well.

  2. So clever, Brian! Love those palm trees peeking out from behind.

  3. Those palm trees make me say “ahhhhh!” Darling card with a crisp clean sentiment. Your signature!

  4. Love your card Brian. Great layout and colors. Such attention to detail! Makes me want to go to the beach.

  5. Beautiful card – crisp and clean. I love the color combination.

    • Thanks, Linda! As soon as I sat down to make this card, I knew I’d want to start with this WISH – the rest came together while I made it. Glad you like it.

  6. Thanks for the smile. What’s not to love about this card? Vacation, I wish!

  7. SUPER AWESOME stamping tip for the alpha letters. Thanks for sharing your FUN card with us.

    • I’m so glad you like the tip, Kadie! I bought a couple extras of this block to help me with these alphabet builder sets. Thanks so much for your awesome comments. ♥

  8. Another amazing layout! The placement of the Sahara Sand stripe on the oval was not lost on me. So pleasing to the eye. The colors are beautiful together. One of my favorite cards of yours! Thank you for another fantastic Hop! Xo

  9. Great card ! Love the Palm trees and the colors . Also thank you for reminding me of that Friend Like You Bundle . I had plans to get it , BUT I put it on the future wish list and forgot !
This is a card with subtle design details that I love !

  10. Brian those palm trees speaks volumes ?

  11. I would so make a bunch of copies of this card, not because I was on vacation, but to send to my friends in my home state when I am missing them. I absolutely love the palm trees on the card. Day after day, week after week you amaze me with your ability to turn out gorgeous cards on a daily basis. WOW!

  12. Super cute card Brian, you know I love my neutrals. Here’s a question though when you’re away from your “Stampin’ children” do you really wish we were there? Just kidding I know you do.

  13. This card is refreshing to look at. Its clean lines seem simple, but when you look closely there are lots of details. Amazing!

  14. In love with the arrangement of the palm trees! Another splendid Brian card!!!

  15. Oh that color combo is fab! Love the Pool Party with the neutrals! Beautiful!

  16. Awesome card..love the relaxed feel and of course palm trees!

  17. This card just makes me happy! I love the palm trees sneaking out from behind the wish! And your soft background from the woven threads paper. I really do though wish you were here….like right now!

    • Thank you so much, Jennifer! I would love to see you sometime soon. Seems like it’s your turn to come to Atlanta, but I might be convinced to make a road trip. 🙂

  18. Nice card, Brian! You really nailed the “You were here” in such a straight line. 3 stamp sets, one great card.

  19. Hi Brian! Fantastic card! I avoid the alphabet stamps, because I find getting them straight a challenge. Am I correct in thinking the stamp applied to the front of the block makes a straighter placement a little easier? Is their a link to the original post for further directions?

    • Thank you so much, Petra! I don’t use alphabet stamps a lot, either, for the same reason. They are so tiny and hard to line up. On this project, I trimmed a thin strip of cardstock to stamp the words on, giving me no space on either side for my eyes to get off-track. I use the long & slender blocks, though, to have one stamp on each side so I don’t have to clean and replace each one – when the “E” comes back up, I already have it mounted and ready to use. 🙂 Here’s a link to another project with these stamps: https://stampwithbrian.com/2019/04/09/beautiful-you-in-gorgeous-plaid/ Hope that helps! ♥

  20. Fabulous card! and thanks for the tip too x

  21. Suzie Patt Cullen

I live in the land of palm ?trees. This past week on the local news, they did a news piece on how more calming it is to drive on streets and roads in traffic with palm trees. ??? Your card with the palm trees and the beautifully restful color palette is awesome, Brian!

    • It’s a true statement – I would say long roads lined with palm trees or short roads with grand oaks would make me happy. I’m so glad to pay homage to your home, Suzie! ♥

  22. Love this card! My fave is how you lined up the bottom portion of the sentiment AND using the WISH on something non-birthday.

    • Thank you so much, Jennifer! ♥ I intentionally lined up the letters on a small strip to help me “stay in the lines” a bit. Glad you like what I made. ♥

  23. Beautiful card that really sang to me as I’ve spent my whole life in Hawaii, coastal California and now beachside Florida. Lots of palm trees in my life. The details are amazing. Will definitely try something like this since I own all the stamps.
    Hugs and keep creating.
    Lynn

    • Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, Lynn! I grew up in Charleston, SC (less of a beach town but still lots of palm trees). I think you’ve soaked in more sun rays and felt more ocean breezes than most. 🙂 I hope you have fun with this card – it was fun to design. ♥

  24. This is a perfect “vaca”card!
