This weekend’s temperatures didn’t feel like Autumn, but the leaves started falling onto my back porch. Does that mean we are ushering in Fall? I hope so! I love the warm colors and cool, crisp air that Autumn offers. The very prospect of it inspired me (along with this week’s sketch challenge at the Global Design Project) to make this simple card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Gather Together. “May this season bring you smiles & love that will last all season” – what a gorgeous sentiment! I might normally fight the word “smiles” in a sentiment, but I think it’s perfect here (I think we need more smiles and love). The font is gorgeous, too, and it’s just waiting to be cropped with the 1-1/2″ Circle punch, framed with a Layering Circle Die and surrounded by beautiful leaves.
The sentiment and leaves are found in the Gather Together stamp set, a Fall-themed photopolymer stamp set. The leaves are cropped with the Gathering Leaves Dies. Here’s a look at the Gather Together Bundle:
- Surprise – and Layer Measurements. You may think I pulled this gorgeous Designer Series Paper from the Come to Gather Designer Series Paper that coordinates with the Gather Together Bundle, but that’s not the case. I pulled this gorgeous backdrop from the Monster Bash Designer Series Paper – it’s a beauty, no?
Here are the measurements on the panels on this simple card (starting with the base of the card and working my way up):
- Crushed Curry – 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ (scored at 4-1/4″)
- Monster Bash Designer Series Paper – 5-1/4″ x 4″
- Soft Suede – 4-1/8″ x 2-7/8″
- Crushed Curry – 4″ x 2-3/4″
- Soft Suede – 4″ x 1-1/16″
- Crumb Cake – 4″ x 1″
- Thick Very Vanilla – two leaves with Gathered Leaves Dies
- Soft Suede – 1-5/8″ circle with Layering Circles Dies
- Very Vanilla – 1-1/2″ Circle punch
- Warm Colors. Yellows and browns make this card very warm – and we’ll need warmth as the weather starts to change. I LOVE Fall colors – there’s a simplicity to this color combination that I also love. If you love this combination of Crushed Curry, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede, please save this:
Bundles: Gather Together Stamp Sets: Gather Together Papers: Monster Bash Designer Series Paper, Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Thick Very Vanilla Inks: Crushed Curry, Soft Suede Accessories: Gathered Leaves Dies, 1-1/2″ Circle punch, Layering Circles Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Thanks, Mary! I worried it would be too busy, but I quite liked it, too. Thank you so much for your comments. ♥
Great feeling of movement (as in leaves falling) in the DSP…beautiful choice Brian! Just starting to get some red leaves up here in Maine. : )
Thank you, Dawn! I love when products are so versatile – and this paper just makes me happy. Glad you like the card. Wish I could be in Maine for the changing of the leaves. ♥
Great take on the sketch. The DSP really adds a lot of texture to your pretty card. Love the sweet sentiment. Have a great day!

You nailed the cool feeling of fall with this card Brian.
Thanks, Kadie! There’s such a crispness to Crushed Curry. Glad you like it.
Fabulous card Brian. It’s amazing how your brain works to put together so many different things and end up with such a great card. How did you ever think to use DSP from the Monster Bash paper to combine with the Gather Together set? WOW! AND, if you would like to come to Maine during the glorious days of fall here I’m sure Dawn and I would love to have you as would all members of your fan club is this wonderful state.
As soon as I saw this gorgeous paper (such a gorgeous pattern!), I knew I’d be using this for a sophisticated card. So glad you like it, Grace! I can’t think of anything more fun that time with Grace and Dawn, but I’m not sure it’s going to happen this year. 🙂 ♥
Would have never guessed that DSP was from Monster Bash!!! Your stunning card has all the autumn feels, love it!
Thanks, Sheryl! There are two pages in Monster Bash that fit with the spooky theme but are also gorgeous enough to be included on a sympathy card. It was fun to work with. Glad you like it. ♥
Halloween paper? Wow it looks so elegant here…..love it!
Thanks, Linda! It’s a gorgeous pattern!
In fall nature puts on a simply elegant display; you captured that perfectly in this card.
I couldn’t agree more – Fall is such a gorgeous season for that reason. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment. ♥
