This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me the perfect inspiration I needed to get started on a card I’ve wanted to make for a while – a cute Halloween card. I wanted something that wasn’t spooky or scary but still embraces the fun of Halloween. I reached for the Harvest Hellos stamp set to make my sweet Halloween card. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Versatile Harvest Hellos. The Harvest Hellos Bundle can be used to make apples or pumpkins – such a versatile bundle! I didn’t use either of the images or the punch for this project – instead I let the pumpkin face stand alone here on the corner of a Stitched Shapes square die. The sentiment is also from Harvest Hellos. Here’s a look at the Harvest Hellos Bundle:
- Nine Layers. I set out to make a simple card with only a couple of layers. When I set a goal, I like to stick to that goal – except when it comes to simple layers. For some reason, I add a frame and then another layer. Before I know it, I’ve achieved a nine-layer card with two layers of Stampin’ Dimensionals. One day I’ll be able to make two layers work. One day.
- Sweet Halloween Colors. From the start of this project, I knew I didn’t want to use Pumpkin Pie for my card front – it’s the orange that is most synonymous with Halloween. Instead, I started with the softer, sweeter Grapefruit Grove and accented it with Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake and Whisper White. If you like this combination of Grapefruit Grove, Cajun Craze and Crumb Cake, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Harvest Hellos Papers: Regals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Cajun Craze), Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Grapefruit Grove, Thick Whisper White Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black Accessories: Stitched Shapes (Square), Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

What’s your record for number of layers?! I love ❤️ your design aesthetic with its emblematic multiple mattes–always brings your projects to life. Such a fun card!
Thanks, Linda! I love to be clean (but layered) – it’s just how I think, I guess. I think I had a card with 13 layers at one point, but it certainly wasn’t a super-clean card. 🙂
Marvelous interpretation of the sketch. I love the “oh, so subtle” spookiness!
🙂 Thank you so much, Mary! Had fun with this one. ♥
I love all those layers! I will try to add a few to my next card making session!
It’s great fun, Candace! I am particularly excited when I can layer up a card and still have it look clean-and-simple. 🙂
Thanks for starting my day with a smile.
That’s my goal every single day. 🙂 Thanks, Chris!
Great color combo and you are the Matte Master!
Thank you, Dawn! You inspire me to be a better matter. ♥
So adorable esp with the sentiment. I have been trying to resist this set!
Thanks, Windy! I think the sentiments in this set are adorable – and the punch is great fun. Glad you like it. ♥
I love the HELLO PUMPKIN ! This is a cutie card ! So you did more layers than you intended …so what ! That`s like what I say to myself about dsp when tempted to buy MORE ! I like your card with it`s unintended layers !! GIGGLE !
🙂 Thank you so much, Sonny! I had fun with it – and you and I have a lot in common. ♥
Such a cute card……yep I counted the layers before I read your post….lol…..
Ha! I didn’t think my lack of layer control was that noticeable. 🙂
Cheers to the King of Layers!! Fun and simplistic without the layers being the star. Love it! Enjoy your day!
Thanks, Hilda! 🙂 I was so determined to make a simple card until I lost all my determination. ♥
Darling take on this sketch my friend. LOVE IT!!!
🙂 Thanks, Kadie!
This card made me smile! And the colors and paper patterns are great.
Thanks so much, Susan! I’m so happy you like it, but I’m super-happy it made you smile. ♥
It’s O.K. Brian, I understand. I always start out to make a “simple” card – you know, a base card with stamping on it. In the 17 years I’ve been stamping I haven’t reached that goal yet. Love you card today, the color combo is so nice and “fall”. 9 layers are “oh my goodness” gorgeous. LOL
Thank you so much for understanding, Grace! I’ve only made single or two-layer cards when the challenge requires that. Even then… Always appreciate your kind comments. ♥
Even before I read your blog today, I started counting the layers on this very well designed card! Now, I need to search for the 13 layer card in your gallery!
