Winter Woods for GDP308

It’s time for another CASE the Designer Challenge from the Global Design Project. There are so many places to find inspiration for the projects we make – I love the opportunity to create a project that’s inspired by the art of my fellow team members on GDP. Always a joy! This week we are CASEing my good friend, Krista Frattin, from Canada. What fun! Here’s my card:

Winter Woods, Itty Bitty Christmas, Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP208When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. I was inspired by the layout of Krista’s card – two layered objects with a sentiment off to the side. Love it! My trees and dark sky aren’t as soft and sweet, but her card inspired me nevertheless.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Winter Woods. Winter Woods is a carryover stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog and is currently included in the 2019 Annual Catalog. What a beauty this set is! The “Thinking of You this Season” sentiment is gorgeous, but the trees in this set are breathtaking. I love them all, but there’s something really special about this Christmas tree – and it looks amazing stamped. Here’s a look at the Winter Woods stamp set:Winter Woods, Stampin' Up! 151359The set coordinates with the In the Woods Dies (not offered as a bundle). When you pick up this set, you’ll want to add-in those dies. You’re welcome. ♥
  • Stamping Off. As I was making this card, I stamped the tree two times – once with a fully inked stamp and then immediately beside that with a lighter concentration of ink. These are sometimes called “first generation” and “second generation”.Winter Woods, Itty Bitty Christmas, Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe sentiment from Itty Bitty Christmas is stamped with Night of Navy on Thick Very Vanilla cardstock and cropped with the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die. The trees and sentiment are showcased in a background of copper stars from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper. • Rich Color Combination. I love the mix of Mossy Meadow and Night of Navy – how rich are they?! The addition of little copper foil stars really takes this combination up another notch. ♥ I bordered everything with Very Vanilla for a softer-than-white look.
