Feels Like Frost for FabFriday

I’ve been fangirling (I can fangirl, right?) over the Feels Like Frost 6″ x 6″ Specialty Designer Series Paper since it first made its way into my life. I LOVE the gorgeous patterns in this pack of paper – the photo-real pages are PERFECT for this time of year and are beautifully coordinated with Stampin’ Up!’ colors. I was excited to showcase this snowy tree branch from Feels Like Frost for this week’s FabFriday sketch challenge – I love the blues! Here’s my card:

Merry Christmas to All, Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

And here’s the FabFriday sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Feels Like Frost. You might not initially consider Highland Heather, Balmy Blue and Seaside Spray as colors that are perfect for Winter, but the gorgeous pages of Feels Like Frost 6″ x 6″ Specialty Designer Series Paper build a solid argument for why these colors belong with a frosty scene. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Feels Like Frost 6″ x 6″ Specialty Designer Series Paper: Feels Like Frost 6" x 6" Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 2019 Holiday Catalog, 150444Want to see more? You can CLICK HERE on the image below to see each of the pages in this pack of papers: Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!The sentiment on this card is stamped on 3/8″ tall strips of Thick Whisper White cardstock with Night of Navy ink and popped up with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. Here’s a look at this incredible stamp set (carried over from last year’s Holiday Catalog into this year’s Annual Catalog: Merry Christmas to All, Stampin' Up! 147702While I didn’t use them on this card, the Merry Christmas Dies (sold separately) are beautifully coordinated with this stamp set. You can see those dies here.
  • A Touch of Vellum. The construction of this card is quite simple – paper layered on paper for a simple layout that is “wow” because of the gorgeous background panel. There’s another element on this card, though, that I want to point out – the vellum banners at the base of the sentiment circle. Here’s a closer look:Merry Christmas to All, Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI cropped 3/4″ strips of Vellum Cardstock, broke the fibers a bit by running them through my bone folder (makes them softer and less stiff) and then slid each one into the top of my Tailored Tag Punch to snip banner edges. Here’s one of my all-time favorite punches, the Tailored Tag Punch: Tailored Tag Punch, Stampin' Up!, 145667
  • Christmas Blue. Blue is such an all-seasons color. It’s “blue skies and ocean” in summer and “icy tundra” in winter. I love blues at Christmas. I adore this mix of Balmy Blue and Night of Navy in the snowy scene on this card – and all the white only enhances the power of each of the blues. If you like this mix of blues as much as I do, please save this: Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Whisper White, Balmy Blue, Night of Navy

  1. Perfection! The matting makes the colors pop and enhances the sketch intentions. Another Brian home run.

  2. Love this paper…I just cut into it yesterday and it was so easy to match up colors and design a beautiful card like yours. Love how you popped the sentiment!

  3. The “must have” paper of the holiday catalog. Gorgeous in it’s design and versatility. Love your simple card and sentiment.

  6. Brian, although I don’t want to think of winter yet, this card is GORGEOUS!!! Have a nice week-end!

  7. When I first saw today’s card from you I thought “WOW – Brian is actually using ribbon as the perfect touch on this one”. I always try to figure out what you are using on a card creation before reading the accompanying text. I think your putting the vellum to your bone folder softened up the look so much that it really did look like ribbon to me. You are such a genius and today’s card is just plain gorgeous. Great job.

    • Thanks so much, Grace! I try to trick y’all whenever I can. I had two tails of ribbon under a sentiment a couple of weeks ago. I tried different ribbons here, but the vellum worked so well for me. ♥

  8. This is the perfect DSP for holiday cards because it makes it to simple. We all need simple for Christmas cards because we need so many. The photography is outstanding. Love your card, a pop of vellum is perfect for this paper.

  9. Brian, I just have to say, your card is stunning. I love so much of your work, but this is one of my (recent) favs!
    Thanks for sharing.
