Winter Woods for CTS343

I’ve been reaching for my Winter Woods stamp set (and coordinating In the Woods Dies) a lot lately. Maybe it’s because I’m hoping for the Summer weather to be over? The trees are beautiful – there’s no denying it. Here’s my card with the gorgeous Winter Woods stamp set:

CTS343Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Winter Woods & Jolly Season Dies. I’ve been reaching for my Winter Woods stamp set (and coordinating In the Woods Dies) a lot lately. Maybe it’s because I’m hoping for the Summer weather to be over? The trees are beautiful – there’s no denying it. I chose these leafless trees for this week’s sketch. What a gorgeous grove of trees – you can just feel the cool air, can’t you? Here’s a look at the Winter Woods stamp set (from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Annual Catalog):Winter Woods, Stampin' Up! 151359I had an amazing technique in mind when I inked up the trees – I used my sponge brayer to apply ink to the trees (darker at the base and lighter at the tops of the trees). I was SO READY for it to be gorgeous, but I think I over-brayered it such that the entire image was equally inked. I tried. ♥ I used the Jolly Season Dies (part of the Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle) to crop a perfect “‘Tis the Season” sentiment for the front of my card. Here’s a look at the Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle:Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153009
  • Wink Wink. I often use my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to give a shiny, non-messy appeal to my projects. After I cropped “‘Tis the Season” from  the Jolly Season Dies, I painted over the letters with my Wink of Stella brush. What a shine! Winter Woods, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Christmas CardAND – what’s better – I didn’t end up with glitter all over everything. 🙂 It’s a subtle shine (bet you didn’t notice it in the first picture), but the shine is definitely there. • Color Combination. My card doesn’t pull in any Pool Party, but the Pretty Peacock checkered paper (with lighter shades of Pretty Peacock) from the 2019-2021 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper looks like Pool Party to me. The lighter shade looks great with the darker share – and, together, they look amazing with Real Red. If you like this combination of Pool Party, Pretty Peacock and Real Red, please save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Pool Party, Pretty Peacock, Real Red

  1. Love the “wink” of bling and such a smart way to use the trees to represent the strips in the sketch!

  2. Brian, you’ve inspired me to make some “plant a tree” cards for my son’s landscaping business. Love those pops of red!

  3. Great card my friend.
You are lucky you have seasons in your area.
We go from HOT to HOTTER here in Arizona.

    • Ha! We are JUST NOW coming out of 90 degree weather (when we’d normally have had several 60 degree nights by now). Afraid Winter is going to slap us in the face. 🙂

  4. There is just something about that Pretty Peacock ink..it just goes with everything. I would not have thought to stamp those trees in this color..so perfect!

  5. Love your take on the sketch, Brian. The color combo is wonderful and they make a very pretty Christmas card. Have a great day!

  6. Love this! I have a friend who is down about winter coming early where she lives. Maybe this will brighten her day.

    • Winter has DEFINITELY not come early here – we are just getting the first hints of Autumn after weeks and weeks of 90-degree weather. Thanks, Wendie!

  7. Brian I absolutely love the color combo on this card. Very simple to duplicate for the holidays. I hadn’t noticed the sentiment die before!
    Great job!

  8. Hi Brian – from what I see you managed to accomplish your goal with using the brayer. The card is simple and beautiful which I guess makes it simply beautiful! LOL I have been using the Winter Woods set combined with the Snow Front set and they also work together beautifully. Here in my area of Maine we are at peak for foliage and it is so amazing and beautiful that all I seem to want to stamp with are these fabulous tree stamps.

    • I imagine it’s gorgeous there right now, Grace! ♥ Then again, I think snow is gorgeous (since I don’t ever see it). 🙂 Thank you so much – glad you like the card. ♥

  9. Very nice card! I love the design. But I love the color choices the most. That pop of Red on the Pretty Peacock is fabulous!

  10. How do you always manage to come up with the most exquisite color combos? Wow! A real stunner! Beautiful card, my friend.

  11. Perfect card for the sketch! And oh so pretty!

  12. Out of the park homerun! Love the color scheme and the simplicity of those gorgeous trees.
