SPOOKY for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Many of my Stampin’ Up! team members (not only those with blogs) share their gorgeous projects in our team’s Facebook community – there’s such amazing and inspiring creativity in this group! I’m always excited when my team’s blog hop rolls around, though, because I get to share some of their amazing work with you. I’m just as excited to see their projects as you are, and I am proud to share them with you.

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s October Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by a single word – and this month our projects are centered around SPOOKY. With Halloween just around the corner, we are excited to share our spooky, fun projects with our neighbors, coworkers and family – and we’re excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I’m also excited to welcome Kelly Kent, my talented friend from Australia to today’s hop. We are so excited she has agreed to join our blog hop today! Australians don’t really “do Halloween” so she had to stretch a bit to make this work. What fun!

Kelly Kent

Spooktacular Fun

My card for the SPOOKY Blog Hop isn’t so much “spooky” as it is “spooktacular” as it showcases fun products from the Spooktacular Bash Bundle and Monster Mash Suite. Such fun to play with spooky products for a simple, fun card. Here’s my card:

Spooktacular Bash, Wonderfully Wicked, Monster Bash, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Spooky Elements. My card features a super-fun sentiment from the Spooktacular Bash stamp set that’s part of the Spooktacular Bash Bundle. Even if you don’t create projects for Halloween, the Ornate Frames Dies that are part of this suite are a must-have! Here’s a look at the Spooktacular Bash Bundle:    Spooktacular Bash Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153040“Have a spooktacular Halloween” is such a great sentiment that gave me the perfect perch for my spooky cat. The cat is found in the Wonderfully Wicked stamp set that’s part of the Wonderfully Wicked Bundle. • At an Angle. The background of my card is a fun page right out of a witch’s book of spells with potions, recipes and descriptions of some of the most recognizable Halloween characters. This pack of paper is such fun. Here’s a closer look at the colors and patterns in the Monster Bash Designer Series Paper:Monster Bash Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 2019 Holiday Catalog, 150447The page I selected presents these columns in a nice, neat perpendicular fashion. To give my card a little more drama, I cut the paper at an angle to showcase the paper a little differently. I love to play with Designer Series Papers like this.
  • Fun Banner Triple Punch Tip. It’s quite possible you noticed the fun, lopsided banner on my card. The banner anchors the focal square to the side of the card and peeps out from the left side of the square. Here’s a closer look:  Spooktacular Bash, Wonderfully Wicked, Monster Bash, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI discovered this fun look back in 2015 and shared it on my blog back then. At the time, Mom filmed a video to share with my blog readers that proved to be popular. If you’ve not seen it, it’s worth a look-see. If you have seen it, you can reminisce below:Banner Triple Punch Fun Tip with mom, Brian King

Stamp Sets: Spooktacular Bash, Wonderfully Wicked  Papers: Monster Bash Designer Series Paper, Soft Suede, Basic Black, Whisper White  Inks: Soft Suede, Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories: Banner Triple Punch, Stitched Shapes Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. I’m not into the spooky either, so I Love your card! The angled DSP is a great touch I would not have thought of.

    • Thanks so much, Jackie! I was trying to figure out how to maximize the little characters I could get on the card when I realized I could do that (and make it look a little more appealing) by angling it a bit. Glad you like it.

  2. Your card is adorable. I love all the angles and textures. I don’t own any Halloween stamp sets. Your post makes me want to re-think that decision.

  3. Spooktacular! Love the DSP and the adorable cat silhouette!

  4. Awesome spooky card!

  5. Very cute card. The cat is adorable, and I like the neutral colors.

  6. I really like how you combined the two ‘spooky’ stamp sets on one card. But I really loved your Mom’s informational video about the Triple Banner Punch! Please tell her she’s convinced me to buy this punch!!

    • Yay! Thanks so much, Yvonne! I’m still surprised I was ever able to get Mom to make a couple of videos for me (it’s not in her wheelhouse), but she’s so good. Glad you like it.

  7. Love the “old-fashioned” look that this DSP gives to your card Brian!

  8. What a FUN card Brian. And thanks for sharing the Banner Punch video….JUST LOVE Mary King!!!

  9. Thank you so much for having me along for the spooktacular hop Mr King! It was a pleasure hopping with your team. The angled DSP has so many ideas spinning in my head – I love your way of elevating the simple. Kelly x

  10. Watched your mom’s video. She is such a sweetie, no wonder you turned out so well.

  11. Love this card Brian. And I have no idea how I missed Mom’s adorable video. What a cutie! And a fantastic tip on the punch.

  12. Pure genius on the angled dsp. Works great with the angles in the banner. Absolutely Love this card. You can send it to me…lol

  13. Super cute card Brian

  14. Nobody can angle a card like BK! Love the neutral colors and kitty!

  15. Love the dsp angled and the little kitty. And can never get enough of the fantastic Mary King!

  16. Great card! Love the colors!

  17. I had seen your mom’s video earlier, but had forgotten about that offset angle. Thanks for the reminder.

  18. Perfect color matching to your DSP! Cute kitty…..and I love the funky end on the banner!

  19. I love the movement created by the diagonal lines of the DSP. The non-symmetrical banner is fabulous and the perfect touch for this non-spooky card!

  20. So often we only see something in one way, like DSP lined up perfectly. So glad you showcase alternatives and thinking outside the box.

  21. So cute must CASE. Thanks for inviting Kelly

  22. I knew you’d find a way to use that side of the paper! So clever and cute!

  23. Love the color palette of your spooky card! Oh, and I could watch your mom over and over. I love the dies in both of those sets!

  24. Brian, your mom is as cute as a ladybug in this video : )
