Detailed Deer for GDP212

It’s time for another CASE the Designer Challenge with the Global Design Project. There are so many places to find inspiration for the projects we make – I love the opportunity to create a project that’s inspired by the art of my fellow team members on GDP. Always a joy! This week we are CASEing a gorgeous card from Manuela Geiswinkler, our talented team member from Austria. What fun! Here’s my card:

Here’s my card:

Detailed Deer Dies, So Many Stars, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Christmas CardAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP212When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all.

It’s easy to see where Manuela’s project inspired me. I love the layout of her card and repeated many of the elements on mine – the square center, the object in the bottom corner of the square and the sentiment on the panel beneath. I also pulled in some warm blue tones for my project. What wonderful inspiration!

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Detailed Deer. The Detailed Deer Dies are absolutely gorgeous. Even though they pair beautifully with the Dashing Deer stamp set (#151362), I love the silhouette of this leaping deer so much that I just cropped it with Pretty Peacock cardstock and mounted it on a 2-1/2″ square of Pool Party. I had plans to texture-emboss the Pool Party and to add light texture around the square, but I liked the simplicity of it so much that I left it alone. • So Many Stars. I didn’t mention this above when talking about the things I CASE’d, but I was so inspired by Manuela’s star-filled card that I also reached for the same stamp set for my sentiment. “May you enjoy this beautiful season” is just what I wanted to say AND the way it’s styled was a perfect accent below my leaping deer. • Color Combination. It’s official – I’ve fallen in love with Pretty Peacock. When it first arrived, I knew I would love this aqua tone, but I had no idea how much I’d use it. It’s perfect for Autumn AND Christmas. I’m in awe of how gorgeous this deer looks against the Pool Party backdrop, aren’t you? And Smoky Slate just cools off the aqua tones from the blues.
