Happy Holidays with a Brightly Gleaming Ornament

There’s something special about the negative space left by a punch – it’s even more special, though, when that space is filled with gorgeous, shiny paper. I reached for one of my Gleaming Ornaments punches and my Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper to make this card for this week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge. Here’s my card:

  • Brightly Gleaming. A great suite makes for perfect coordination on a card. My card features three products from the Brightly Gleaming Suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Holiday Catalog: the Gleaming ornaments punch, the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper and the Star Designer Elements. I used one of the punches in the Gleaming Ornaments punch pack (part of the Christmas Gleaming Bundle) to punch the ornament that’s the focal point of this card. Here’s a look at this wonderful bundle:Christmas Gleaming Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153006The punched ornament leaves a hole in the Merry Merlot cardstock from which the copper and Pretty Peacock paper can shine. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper: Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 2019 Holiday Catalog, 150429If you’d like to see all of the products in this gorgeous suite, click on the image below: Brightly Gleaming Suite, Stampin' Up! 101017
  • Peek-a-Boo. I punched the ornament in the Merry Merlot cardstock and again in the Thick Whisper White. I knew they wouldn’t be perfectly aligned with one another (and they were too thick to run through the punch together), so I carved away at the hole in the Thick Whisper White panel until it didn’t peek around the edges of the ornament. The ornament shape gives a lovely peek-a-boo to the paper beneath the two panels.Brightly Gleaming, Itty Bitty Christmas, Gleaming Ornaments, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI stamped “HAPPY HOLIDAYS from Itty Bitty Christmas on a 1/2” strip of Thick Whisper White and added a copper star from the Star Designer Elements for a perfectly coordinated embellishment. Love that coordination!
  • Color Combination. Merry Merlot and Pretty Peacock are so lovely together (but what color isn’t lovely with Pretty Peacock?!). The copper foil is a gorgeous pattern and element on this page of Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper – what a sophisticated addition.
