SNEAK PEEK: Under My Umbrella

I’m excited to share a bright-and-sunny card I made for this week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge. Not only does the card feature a Spring-like combination of colors, but it offers a sneak peek at some wonderful, new products from Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2020 Mini Catalog. What fun! Here’s my card:

  • Under My Umbrella. In case you’ve not yet seen it, here’s a look at Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2020 Mini Catalog cover that is filled to the brim with gorgeous poppies:2020 Mini Catalog coverMy card features another Spring-themed product, the Under My Umbrella Bundle. The bundle includes the Under My Umbrella photopolymer stamp set and Umbrella Builder Punch. I’m convinced this will be one of the top sellers in Stampin’ Up!’s new catalog. Here’s a look at this new bundle:Under My Umbrella Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153786Note: There are two umbrellas in this stamp set and punch – one is an open rain umbrella, and one is a partially-closed parasol. Both are pretty great!
  • Paper Piecing. I employed a little paper piecing on my project so that my umbrella and galoshes would be bordered by a thin frame of Whisper White to match the borders around the Stitched Squares and Daffodil Delight card panel. I stamped the umbrella on a Highland Heather piece of Subtles 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper and also stamped the umbrella on Thick Whisper White. I snipped the Highland Heather Umbrella and punched out the Whisper White umbrella. I glued the snipped Highland Heather on the punched Whisper White one for a fun border.Under My Umbrella Bundle, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe galoshes were handled the same way as the umbrella except that there’s no punch for the boots. I stamped the galoshes on Thick Whisper White and cropped them with my Brother Scan & Cut, leaving a small border. I stamped them on a Daffodil Delight piece of Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, snipped that out and glued it on the image I had cropped from Whisper White.
  • Spring Colors. The Coastal Cabana backdrop on this card (the panel just above the base and just below the umbrella and galoshes) is a beautifully textured page from the Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper. 5. Such a fun and uplifting card! Keep those sneak peeks coming Brian! : )

  6. This card is such a cutie! It was nice to see something so bright and cheery on this cold, gray morning!

  7. Brian this card is so indicative of Spring, April showers and May flowers. It is simply beautiful. It takes my mind off of the 40 degree temperature outside.

  8. This is a beautiful friendship card that will lift anybody’s spirits way high. Love the Gingham umbrella and those rain boots are so adorable, the color combination shouts out loud “April Showers”!! which is something to look forward too on this very gray and dreary day.
    Thank you for sharing.

    • Thank you so much, Maria! It’s funny to me how much I want to play with rich, warm colors as Fall approaches and how I’m ready for soft and bright colors as soon as Winter comes along. 🙂 Always love to hear from you.

  9. Just love this card Brian. The colors are so soft and “Eastery”! One of the great things about this upcoming set to me is the rain galoshes. These days they aren’t just the boring one dark color they used to be but now are in all kinds of bright colors and patterns. I saw a set with huge red poppies that I tried to find a little girl to buy them for. And actually, the first thing I thought of when I saw your card for today was “what a great baby shower card” this design would make. Great job oh Kind of cards making! LOL

  10. This is so cute….love the purple umbrella!

  11. Brian, I absolutely adore that little umbrella and galoshes! I was lucky enough to get this set at the Vegas On Stage, and I couldn’t be happier. But, I’ve come to realize, you must have been an architectural engineer in a past life, because you always think of the coolest things to make your card stand out. Who else would ever think to snip the purple checked paper on the umbrella, and the galoshes, to match the white edge of the squares? You amaze me! 🙂

    • 🙂 Thanks, Bobbi! I guess I’ve grown accustomed to that little border that’s left with our punches and dies and wanted to make sure it was there. I appreciate your sweet comments. Thanks! ♥
