First Frost for FabFriday

I’m cursed. Every time I admit to you that I don’t make many flower cards, I find myself challenged to make more flower cards. While I had lots of fun with First Frost and the Frosted Bouquet to make this card for the FabFriday color challenge that launches today, it wasn’t what I initially had in mind. Somewhere in the back of my head, though, I pressured myself to give it a try. Here’s my card:

  • First Frost & Frosted Bouquet Dies. The First Frost stamp set and coordinating Frosted Bouquet Dies were first introduced in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog and then reappeared in the 2019 Annual Catalog. While they were initially sold as a bundle, the bundled pricing went away at the end of the holiday catalog period. That’s the same here – every bundle in this year’s Holiday Catalog (including ones that will carry into future catalogs) will no longer be offered with the 10% off price for the bundle after January 2. • Build-a-Bouquet. I’ve never felt comfortable with building a collage of sprigs, leaves and flowers. As a mostly-clean-and-simple designer, collages go from simple to messy in a flash! I stamped and cut out a lot of pieces from this stamp set and coordinating dies before deciding on this layout that gives the right balance of colors, textures and shapes. Here’s a closer look at the bouquet that pops out from behind the sentiment:First Frost, Frosted Bouquet Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAfter everything was glued down, I added two little banners to the right of the sentiment and under the leaves to provide a “foundation” for the flowers.
  • Double It Up. After I popped up the Merry Merlot flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals to give the bouquet some dimension and lift, I needed my layered sentiment to pop up a little so it would be higher than the flower. Here’s a look at the finished product:First Frost, Frosted Bouquet Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTo achieve that effect, I simply doubled up my Stampin’ Dimensionals. They lined up perfectly to add that little lift I needed here. Here’s a closer look at my Stampin’ Dimensionals stacked on each other just under the Mossy Meadow layer of the sentiment: First Frost, Frosted Bouquet Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
