Happy Birthday to You, Mom!

My Mom’s birthday is tomorrow. If you’ve followed me long enough, then you know Mom loves blue flowers (blue flowers are a birthday and Mother’s Day tradition). My friend, Donna Mikasa, is hosting the sketch challenge this week at the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, and I couldn’t love it more. There are so many ways to interpret a sketch and make it your own, but I loved the simplicity of her sketch so much that I simply followed it to make a card I can be happy with. Here’s my card for Mom and for this week’s CTS challenge:

Happy Birthday to You, Peaceful Moments, Stampin Up!, Brian King, birthday cardAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

  • Happy Birthday to You. Sale-a-Bration is Stampin’ Up!’s annual earnings promotion. There are lots of exclusive products you can choose from with every $50 you spend during the three-month sale. One of the great products you can earn is Happy Birthday to You, a cling mount stamp set that’s full of beauty and joy. Here’s a look at the gorgeous cake and fun sentiments in Happy Birthday to You:Happy Birthday to You, Stampin Up! Sale-a-Bration 152308The sentiment on my card is a from the must-have Peaceful Moments stamp set, available by itself or as part of the Peaceful Moments Bundle. So many great sentiments in this set! • Coordination Product Release. My colorful cake is cropped with the Birthday Dies, part of an upcoming promotion you’ll want to study hard. Starting in February, Stampin’ Up! is kicking off a Coordination Product Release during which you can buy dies and papers that coordinate with items found in this year’s Sale-a-Bration brochure and January – June 2020 Mini Catalog. Demonstrators can buy these items now (and even add them to their Starter Kit when they sign up). Here’s a look at the Birthday Dies:  Birthday Dies, Stampin Up! Product Coordination 153590The stamp set is wonderful, but the dies really add to the versatility and usefulness of the stamp set. Love that! You can see all of the items offered in the Coordination Product Release that kicks off in February here:Stampin Up! Coordination Products stampwithbrian.comThere are some incredible offerings in this two page release. The new items have changed my mind about how much I need some things from Sale-a-Bration and the Mini Catalog. How about you? Incentive to plan ahead? ♥ I’ll be sharing more about this product release later this week. What fun!
  • Soft Color Combination. I knew I wanted Seaside Spray flowers – so soft, so beautiful. As I thumbed through my Stampin’ Blends, I was immediately drawn to Light So Saffron for a vanilla buttercream frosting on my cake.  Happy Birthday to You, Peaceful Moments, Stampin Up!, Brian King, birthday cardIf you like this color combination of So Saffron, Seaside Spray and Smoky Slate, please save this for future reference:Stampin Up! 10. Happy. Birthday to your momma! Love the color combo! How did you extend your cake? It is taller than the stamp?

    • Hey Cindy, Thanks! I didn’t alter the cake at all. I thought it looked small on my card so I trimmed the panel behind it. I kept trimming that base until the cake almost overlapped its borders. It’s all optical illusion. 🙂

  23. Hello Brian,

You simply nailed this oh so elegant card for your Mom. Were you this creative when you were little, I wonder? I’m sure that when you may have brought home drawings etc from school as a child she never dreamed you’d be making her elegant sentimental cards… she is so blessed. Always enjoy seeing your creations. ~ Blessings, Barb

    • Thanks so much for your kind words, Barb! I’m so glad you like the card. Yes, I’ve always been a creative person – lots of drawing and coloring as a child. I’ve always enjoyed making things with my hands. ♥ Mom’s really creative, too, so I had some great inspiration.

  24. I love this card and I am making it was a friend’s BD. Did you put dimentionals under the Smoky Slate banner piece and the oval that says Happy Birthday?
