Make a Wish with Broadway Lights

Beautiful cards that are filled with colors and fun patterns can still be perfect for men. Even with all of its intricate patterns and bold colors (and a heavy dose of Poppy Parade), today’s card is a perfect “happy birthday” card for the man in your life. Here’s my card with a fun sketch from Chrissy Larson for the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

Broadway Lights Dies, Country Club Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian King

Here’s the banner for the super-fun challenge that inspired my card:

CTS_365Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Make a Wish! There are many word dies in Stampin’ Up!’s current offerings, but there’s something really special about the beautifully scripted, rounded letters of “Wish” in the Broadway Lights Dies. These dies are incredible! While they pair beautifully with the Broadway Birthday stamp set (I used the stamp set for “make a”), there are some really great standalone dies in this set, too! Here’s a look at the Broadway Lights Dies: Broadway Lights Dies, Stampin Up! 153817The gorgeous, colorful pattern that pops out on this card front is one of the beautiful pages in the Country Club Designer Series Paper. Many of these pages are perfect for the man in your life who loves to golf, but many of the pages are just as perfect for anyone. • You’re a Star. While there’s a dot for the “i” in the “Wish” die,  I added a special touch by cropping out the largest star with the Twinkle Builder punch. It’s a little accent that makes a big difference. Here’s a closer look at how “Make a Wish” plays against the three panels of paper on this card: Broadway Lights Dies, Country Club Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Color Combination. Without the greens, yellows and gray in the panel of Country Club Designer Series Paper, I would think this color combination is a perfect patriotic one. With those colors, though, the colors don’t read as patriotic. Do you agree? If you like this mix of Pool Party, Night of Navy and Poppy Parade, please save this for future reference:Stampin Up! I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

WOW!! Brian, you did a magnificent job with this sketch, I love the pattern paper in the middle, it kind of points out that bold and fabulous die cut sentiment.

  14. Hi Brian, I’m new to your site. Love this card! I have so much DSP, and am enjoying how you choose to use it with your cards. How do you cut your paper to look like that (wedges). Thanks!

    • Thank you so much for your comments, Diane! I’m so happy you are enjoying my projects. ♥ For this card, the DSP is the base (I think it’s 4″ x 5-1/4″). I cut the Night of Navy panel at 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ and the Pool Party Panel at 1-1/2″ x 5-1/4″. I then cut from the bottom points of the blue panels upward to create an angle. I hope that helps and makes sense. ♥
