You Inspire Me for CTS374

The CAS(E) This Sketch team his hosting a retro challenge – taking us back to a fun, simple sketch that we first played around with in August 2018. It’s fun to create something new with an old sketch and then look back to when you first created with it. What a difference. Here’s my card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

Sweet Silhouette Dies, Harvest Hellos, Stampin Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sentiment Combination. The “inspire” sentiment on my card is a gorgeous die-cut from the Sweet Silhouettes Dies, part of the Silhouette Scenes Bundle. The other gorgeous, scripted words in this set of dies are “forever” and “adventure.” The dandelion was also “plucked” from this set of dies. While both this stamp set and the coordinating dies are carrying into Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog, the bundled savings (10% off when you buy both together) goes away on June 2. Here’s a look at the incredible Silhouette Scenes Bundle: Silhouette Scenes Bundle, Stampin' Up! 151058I selectively masked one of the sentiments from Harvest Hellos (a carryover from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Holiday Catalog into the 2020 Annual Catalog and still available online now). I used masking tape to cover “make me smile” in the “you make me smile” sentiment for the first word of the complete sentiment and to cover “you make” and “smile” for the last part of the complete sentiment. • Textured Backdrop. This sketch is super-simple, so my card is super-simple. To give it a little extra umph, I used one of my favorite techniques to create a beautifully textured backdrop on the focal panel. I opened a Pool Party ink pad and slid it over a piece of Pool Party cardstock a couple of times to create a pattern in the background. I love the effect! QUICK TIP: with the new ink pads, carefully plan which side of the pad you want to drag across the cardstock – with an opened and locked ink pad, you want to drag the side that corresponds with the label (otherwise, the pad will become unlocked and just slide out of place). Don’t ask me how I know. ♥
  • Shiny Dandelion. The dandelion from the Sweet Silhouettes Dies is beautiful and fun. To add a little extra fun to the cutout, I painted my dandelion with a little Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. I don’t use glitter a lot, but it’s usually Wink of Stella when I do. 3. Pretty card, Brian. I love the technique using the ink pad. So clever. Enjoy your day!

  4. Great background and pops of white! Sweet card!

  5. So nice of you to use one of my favorite stamp sets of all time – Sweet Silhouettes. Even I was surprised at how often I reach for this set. I love your background technique and this car is out of the ballpark!

    • It was all for you, Grace! ♥ So glad you like the card – the simplicity of the layout gave me just what I needed to use this fun technique. ♥

  6. What a charming little card. The touch of white MAKES this card.

  7. Your process of sliding an ink pad across some papers sounds similar to the swipe process.

    • Hi Brent! Yes – it’s similar. Instead of swiping onto the stamp, though, I’m swiping onto the paper. Now I’m going to have to create with that technique. Thanks!

      • Maybe we can say the swiping effect is impacted by the texture of the paint source (ink-pad, brush, etc) versus the texture of the receiving medium of the ink (paper, stamp, etc). I am striving to make computer graphic of this processes with limited success currently.

  8. This is such a pretty card, Brian! I had never even noticed that dandelion die. You showed it off beautifully.

    • Thank you so much, Susan! I’ve cut it several times, but I think this is the first time it made its way into one of my projects. So glad you like it.

  9. Brilliant, simple and beautiful!

  10. The white diecuts are wonderful against your background!

  11. Love the white die-cuts and the background ‘swiping’ technique.

  12. SO creative and Gorgeous.

  13. So pretty! I love the texture you created on the background with just an ink pad. Pool Party and Whisper White – classic.
