Warm Hugs to You

It has been really hot lately, so it’s nice to dream of blankets and warm cocoa, right? When I was first drawn to the “warm hugs to you” sentiment and cup of cocoa in the Warm Hugs Bundle, I knew the sentiment and image would pair perfectly with this gorgeous plaid. Here’s my warm hugs note card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Warm Hugs Bundle. While the Warm Hugs Bundle might have been designed with the Mini Coffee Cups in mind (the stamps and dies offer a perfect accent for the little cups), the sentiments and images are also perfect for card making and scrapbooking. Here’s a look at the Warm Hugs Bundle:Warm Hugs Bundle, Stampin Up! 155145I stamped the circular sentiment with Cherry Cobbler ink and cropped it with the die in the bottom, right corner of the product image above. It creates two circles – fun! I stamped the mug and stamped the inside with Crumb Cake (I cropped it with the Warm Wraps Dies, too). I popped up both with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals on a Crumb Cake Stitched Shapes circle. Here’s a closer look: Warm Hugs Bundle, Plaid Tidings, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Alternative Sizes. I mostly make standard A4 cards – where the cardfront is 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, but I also love to make cards in alternative sizes. I’ll occasionally make 4-1/4″ square cards or 3″ square cards and sometimes make long, thin cards. My favorite alternative-sized card, though, is a note card size (the cardfront is 5″ x 3-1/2″). The smaller size allows me to really play with small images or shapes without having them look lost on a large space. The card base on this card is 3-1/2″ x 10″ and scored at 5″ so it will tuck nicely into one of the notecard envelopes. ♥
  • Plaid Tidings. I’m absolutely in love with the patterns and colors in the Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – all holidays are represented here from Halloween through Valentine’s Day. There are feminine patterns with beautiful pinks and masculine patterns with browns and blues. Such a great collection of papers: Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 153527For today’s card, I showcased the third plaid paper showcased in the image above. I love the Crumb Cake base with the bands of Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce and Whisper White running through it. If you like this mix of Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! 1. Brian, your card reminds me of getting a nice hot coffee drink on a cold winter’s day up north. I love the color palette you chose. And who doesn’t love “plaid”? Thank you!

  2. Handsome design. Love the layering of the sentiment!

  6. Awwwww, what a sweet card , my friend, love that dsp ,
    I’m hording mine , lol ♥️
    Tfs my friend ♥️

  7. I don’t buy a lot of DSP but when I saw the plaid 6 X 6 it was the first thing on my shopping list. It should arrive next Monday and I can’t wait to play with it. Your card for today is a real first class winner and I too love the layering of the sentiment. Another fantastic creation by the King!

  8. I don’t buy a lot of DSP Brian but when I saw the plain 6″X6″ I just HAD to have it. Your card today is another out-of-the-park design. Did you use an EF on the edges of the crumb cake base? Another fantastic design by our stamping King. Love it.

    • Thanks, Grace! There’s a big difference between plaid and plain, huh? 🙂 I added a layer of embossed Crumb Cake on the Crumb Cake base – it looks seamless, though. Thanks! ♥

  9. Oops – I meant PLAID! DUH!

  10. I think you very well could have made the PERFECT holiday card with this one Brian. LOVE IT!!!

  12. Such a tasteful and clean card today. Love the plaid!

  13. OH! This is such an amazing masculine card, I absolutely LOVE it.

  14. This card reminds me of New England…crisp, clean and warm… like a blanket you would take to a football game with a thermos of hot chocolate so you could drink a cup to stay warm!! I live in Florida now so those days are memories. Love the plaid DSP!! This would be great to send to my friends up north.

  15. WOW! As always, a perfect color scheme, with a perfect up of cocoa. The EF is also a perfect add on; reminds me of a warm afghan. Although it’s in the triple digits in Arizona. We’ve been so hot for so many days, I have absolutely NO desire for hot cocoa, just yet. Beautiful card my friend. XO

  16. Cozy as a warm sweater in the fall! Love this!

  17. Brian,
Last year you did a tag on a bottle that looked like something on page 8 in the Holiday ( I still call Holiday oops) catalog on page 8. Do you remember what was in your bottle, maybe hot chocolate.
    Thanks
    Marcella

  18. What a classy looking card! Thanks for sharing your design. Have a great Friday!
