Happy Thanksgiving for CTS390

Is there anything as wonderful as the change of leaves in Autumn as the air becomes crisper? As we are experiencing the downpour of rain in Atlanta from the Southern tropical storms, the air is cooler. I can only hope this ushers in the Fall weather we all love. The sketch at this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me a grand reason to play with the Rooted in Nature stamp set for a Thanksgiving-themed Fall card. Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

CTS390While Chrissy’s sketch showcases (what appears to be) a vellum band across the front, I played with several options before allowing the tree to stand tall and proud in front of the white band. I also created a landscape layout versus the portrait layout of Chrissy’s sketch.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Word Wishes. While I have used the A Wish for Everything stamp set for several different occasions over the years, but this is the first time I’ve showcased the Word Wishes Dies – what fun! I cropped “Thanksgiving” with Early Espresso cardstock and a layer of Adhesive Sheet behind it. That made it VERY EASY to layer on the band and over the tree (no glue to spill out over the edges of the letters). Here’s a look at the Word Wishes Dies:Word Wishes Dies, Stampin' Up! 149629The “happy” that nestles perfectly between the “T” and “k” in “Thanksgiving” was pulled from “Happy Holidays” in the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set.
  • Coloring the tree. The beautiful tree on this card is inked up with Bumblebee ink. I made sure to get all of the leaves into the ink pad but let the trunk of the tree (for the most part) hang off the edge. I then used a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker to paint the trunk into the tree and into the leaves just a bit. So easy and such fun. Here’s a closer look (you can see where the brown and yellow mix a bit in the trunk of the tree):Rooted in Nature, Word Wishes, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Unexpected Base. Don’t you love the warm mix of colors on this Thanksgiving card? You might be surprised to hear that the diagonally-striped, distressed Old Olive background is from a pack of Christmas Papers. Here are the colors and patterns in the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper: Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 153491If you like this warm mix of Bumblebee, Old Olive and Early Espresso as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! 1. I love the diagonal striped background with the pretty fall tree and the nice font of the Thanksgiving die. So pretty! I hope you don’t get flooded in Atlanta. Enjoy your day!

    • Keeping an eye on the creek out back – happy it’s still moving but lots and lots of rain. πŸ™‚ Thanks, Hilda! It’s always nice to hear from you. Hope your day is great!

  2. So pretty layered over the tree. Love the font for “Thanksgiving!”

  3. Awesome Thanksgiving card…love the stripes!

  4. What a wonderful fall card. Hope the rain lets up soon……That storm is really covering a LOT of ground.

    • Thanks, Kadie! We had rain all night – and it hasn’t stopped. The creek out back is really moving (happy we are on an active section of the creek). Thanks!

  5. I just love that tree from Rooted in Nature! It reminds me of a huge Maple tree that stood in my backyard when I lived in CT. In the fall it was so amazingly gorgeous and provided tons of leaves for the kids to jump in.
Just a beautiful card all around Brian, and a wonderful interpretation of the sketch. Thanks for sharing and hoping the rain stops soon.

    • I think the tree is gorgeous, too! Such much beautiful detail in its design. We used to jump into piles of leaves, too – but I couldn’t imagine how I’d enjoy that today. πŸ™‚ We had rain ALL NIGHT and it seems to have slowed up for a bit this morning. We expect more rain through the weekend. Thanks for the kind well wishes. β™₯

    • Thanks, Frenchie! These dies have been around for a year or two – and they are wonderful. I also love the font and will find more reasons to use them. Happy to share, my friend! β™₯

  7. Hi Brian. An absolutely perfectly cropped tree. Also, bringing the Early Espresso up front in your beautiful Thanksgiving sentiment gives your card a perfect color balance. I love its serene simplicity. Also, be safe and dry, my friend.

    • Thank you so much, Debbie! I was pretty proud of how perfectly the tree was cropped πŸ™‚ so I’m glad you noticed. I love these colors and really love playing with them. β™₯

  8. Hi Brian. I love how you brought all the different elements together. Thanksgiving…you are way ahead of the game!
