You’re Amazing & That’s a Fact

I had so much fun making the card I’m sharing with you today. I made it for my college friend who is a middle school teacher in my hometown ( she actually teaches at the middle school I attended). I can’t even imagine how hard it is to return to school after the summer we’ve had, and I know a lot of people are struggling to adjust. This card is a just a reminder that she’s amazing (she is, and that’s a fact). Here’s my card:

My card was created with two challenges in mind – this week’s sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch and this week’s theme at the Global Design Project. Here’s the sketch that inspired my card:

  • Harvest Hellos. Fall is the best time of the year for pumpkins and apples. Who doesn’t love a freshly-harvested pumpkin or apple? Who doesn’t love a warm apple or pumpkin pie this time of year? The BRILLIANT thing about the design of the Harvest Hello stamp set – the same shape works for apples AND pumpkins. The Apple Builder Punch is a perfect accompaniment to this stamp set. Love that! Here’s a look at the Harvest Hellos stamp set.Harvest Hellos, Stampin Up! 150581Little known fact. See the little sprig between the apple shape and the pumpkin shape? There’s a section of the Apple Builder Punch that crops that out. Yay! With the wide part of the stem up (as shown), the stem pis perfect for an apple, but when flip the stem upside down so that the thin part of the stem is up, it’s perfect for a pumpkin. Smart!
  • You’re Amazing. While I love the sentiments in the Harvest Hellos stamp set, I wanted something really special for this card. Since the teacher I’m sending this card to is also a friend, I wanted to make sure the sentiment was a little more personalized. As a friend, she’s amazing. As a science teacher, she appreciates facts. Together, this sentiment from Strong & Beautiful is perfect! Harvest Hellos, Strong and Beautiful, Stampin Up!, Brian KingHere’s a look at all the great sentiments in the Strong & Beautiful stamp set:Strong & Beautiful, Stampin' Up! 148732I searched and searched for the right rectangle or label die to cut out the sentiment, but I was at a loss. Instead of packing it up and looking for another sentiment, I looked for another die option. That’s when I came across the word balloon in the Special Day Dies – my sentiment fit perfectly in there. I simply snipped off the little triangle pop-out that makes it a word bubble. So easy! Glad to have that set of dies! Here’s a look at the Special Day Dies: Special Day Dies, Stampin Up! 153587
  • Primaries. From the start, I knew I wanted to showcase bold, primary colors on my card. While yellow, blue and red are a focal point on this card (the two panels and apple), the green (a mix of blue and yell0w) provides the base. I love these bright, bold colors and think they’re perfect for a school-themed card. Don’t you? If you like this mix of Daffodil Delight, Just Jade, Pacific Point and Real Red as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! Dear Brian,
What a perfect card for your dear friend! We have a daughter who teaches at the high school level and is doing in-person teaching this fall. Whether teaching in person or virtually, they are amazing. ?

    • Thanks, Suzie! Like many others, Kelly is having to teach both in-person and virtually. I imagine it’s hard to develop a curriculum that simultaneously engages both. Thank goodness she’s smart and resourceful. Glad you like the card! All the best to your daughter! ♥

  2. Love your card for your friend ! I have this set and enjoy using it a lot ! Thanks for the stem tip. I did not think about reversing it for the apple or pumpkin ! See what a amazing TEACHER you are also !!!

  3. Great texture/prints with fun colors!

  4. I love this bright sweet card, Brian. I’m sure she will be thrilled to receive it. Teachers do the most amazing work. Enjoy your day!

  5. so cute how you mirrored the shapes with DSP!

  6. PERFECT color combination for a special card for a teaching friend.

  7. Hi Brian:
If I had made this card I would have sent it to you. Like Sonny, I never realized the stem could be turned around to fit the pumpkin OR apple! Such a little detail makes a big difference. Your friend will be thrilled to received this card I’m sure. It’s a blue ribbon winner!

    • Thank you so much, Grace! I love the apple and the pumpkin – fun that the stem can flip, right? So glad you like the card and always appreciate your kind comments.

  8. Great card Brian! Your friend is to be applauded every single day for the work she does. It’s truly a shame it took a pandemic for some people to realize it isn’t the easy job they felt it was. I’m sure your card will go in a special place along with her other special keepsakes.

  9. Love this, Brian! The colors are perfect, the pattern paper choices are perfect, your interpretation of the sketch is unique and perfect! My daughter teaches and our teachers deserve all the kudos we can give them. They are working hard, especially in these times. Great card!

    • Thank you so much, Debbie! I really had fun with this card and loved working with these bright colors. So glad you like it and agree that these teachers deserve more than what they are getting (more money, more kudos, more support). ♥

  10. Love how you worked that sketch! The mix of bright colors is wonderful!

I love your card. Teachers are not given enough respect for all their time, engery and money they put out each session. This punch is also perfect for pumpkins.

  12. Oh my, so stinkin’ cute!!!

  13. Your friend will love your card, Brian. And, it’s perfect for the two challenges!
