An Angel Gets Its Wings

I love non-traditional colors on a Christmas card. While blues have become a comfortable friend on holiday cards and pops of yellow can be gorgeous, the mix of these tones is not commonly thought of as a Christmas combination. Still, that’s what I’ve made with the mix of Here’s my card:

Christmas Means More, Stampin Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Stampin Up! Color Inspiration: Gray Granite, Seaside Spray, Misty Moonlight, Bumblebee

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Christmas Means More. I love big, bold sentiments, but my heart beats faster for sentiments from popular Christmas movies. That’s what we get with Christmas Means More stamp set. Here’s a look at this cinematically fun stamp set:Christmas Means More, Stampin Up!, 154730I love this set so much! Here’s a project I previously shared with the fourth sentiment in the set and with more traditionally Christmas colors (you can click on the picture to see the original post): Christmas Means More, Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingAre you able to name the movie from which each of the quotes is derived? I’m going to help you out:
    • “I believe. It’s silly, but I believe” is from Miracle on 34th Street.
    • “Maybe Christmas means a little bit more” is from The Grinch.
    • “Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings” is from It’s a Wonderful Life.
    • “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” is from my all-time favorite Christmas movie, Elf.
  • Paper Piecing. The sentiment on the face of this card is stamped with Misty Moonlight ink and cropped with the largest of the Layering Ovals Dies. While I planned to add a touch of Bumblebee to the little bells that are a part of the sentiment (it felt a bit forced), Gray Granite gave me a perfect silver-like touch. Here’s a closer look:Christmas Means More, Stampin Up!, Brian KingHere’s how I paper-pieced these little bells with the fun pattern:
    • I stamped the sentiment with Misty Moonlight on Thick Whisper White.
    • I stamped the bells on a strip of Gray Granite print from the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper.
    • I snipped the bells from the patterned paper (not worrying about hook on top of the extended sides of the bells).
    • I added a little glue to the inside of the bells on the Thick Whisper White bells.
    • With tweezers, I carefully place the bells over the stamped shape on the Thick Whisper White base.
    • I smiled at how good they look – and how they tie to the base of my card. ♥
  • Stripes. I do love to build my own background with strips of cardstock – I do it all the time and love to mix the colors and widths of the strips. To a 3-3/4″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock, I glued down strips of Misty Moonlight, Seaside Spray, Bumblebee and Whisper White cardstock, alternating between them in a simple pattern. I then snipped around the edges for a clean 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ panel. For this card, the Misty Moonlight strips are 1/2″. The Seaside Spray and Whisper White strips are each 1/4″. The Bumblebee strips are 3/8″. I popped this panel up from the Gray Granite base with Stampin’ Dimensionals and popped up the oval from that base, too.
