Confidence & Lots of Coffee

The road to a finished card can sometimes be long and windy, but that’s the part I love the most. The card I’m sharing today was not supposed to turn out the way it did, but I couldn’t be happier with the trials it took for me to get here. Here’s my card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

Press On, Stampin Up!, Brian King

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Press On. We love ourselves some coffee and tea stamp sets, don’t we? There are some great, modern coffee cups and super-fun sentiments in the Press On stamp set, new in Stampin’ Up!’s August – December 2020 Mini Catalog. I love it! “All you need is confidence & lots of coffee” – I couldn’t love it more! Here’s a look at this stamp set:Press On, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThere are not any dies that coordinate with the images in this stamp set, so I used my Brother Scan-n-Cut to crop out these little coffee cups that hover just above this amazing sentiment. I colored the cups with a mix of soft colors (Soft Sea Foam, Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo and Petal Pink) so they’d really pop against the neutral backdrop of this card. • Important Accents. A great image and great sentiment can be all you need on a card – and this sentiment and these cups could easily stand alone. It’s still fun to accent the focal points with great products that you need in your arsenal. I added a fun scallop along the base of the sentiment, cropped with the Ornate Borders Dies (part of the Ornate Thanks Bundle) from Early Espresso cardstock. Here’s a look at this bundle:  Ornate Thanks Bundle, Stampin Up! 154115There’s a small panel of Early Espresso between the Sahara Sand focal panel and Early Espresso base on this card. I embossed the panel with Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder – it gave me the exact amount of texture I wanted. • Two Sweet Color Combinations. While the base (and several layers) of this card is Early Espresso and Sahara Sand, I colored my coffee cups with soft, sweet colors. I colored each of the three cups with Petal Pink, Soft Sea Foam and Pool Party – such a sweet combination. If you like this mix of soft colors as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference: Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Petal Pink, Soft Sea Foam, Pool PartyIf you just look at the sweet coffee cup in the middle of my trio, you’ll find a fun mix of Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo and Crumb Cake. I love this mix. If you do, too, please save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration - Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo, Crumb Cake

  3. You are funny..you sound exhausted in the first sentence of the blog…long and windy! You must have been thinking of me! It is a wonderful card no matter how you got to it!

  4. Great card Brian. I’m always amazed at how the card sketched out in my head isn’t the card that I end up with.

  5. Brian, you have a way of putting it all together no matter how windy the road. This card is another WOW from you! The scalloped edge and embossed layer are both details not many would think about. Great card!

  6. I love those sweet coffee cups! Perfect for the sketch!

  7. Cute! Your long and windy road (are you singing that in your head?) resulted in a great card. I keep thinking about a Scan-n-Cut but it’s still just a thought . Do I REALLY need it? Thanks for the reminder about the Ornate Thanks die set!
