Halloween Wreath for CTS395

We all love to decorate for the holidays – from Thanksgiving to Christmas, it’s fashionable to adorn our doors with beautiful wreaths that celebrate the seasons. Today’s card, based on Donna Mikasa’s sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch, offers an accompaniment to beautiful Thanksgiving and Christmas wreaths – a beautiful Halloween wreath. Here’s my card:

CTS395Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Arrange a Wreath. Stampin’ Up!’s Arrange a Wreath, new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog, gives us the images and sentiments we need to celebrate four specific holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. The wreaths can be used for any occasion, though! I simply changed the color of the wreath from the Wreath Builder Dies to make a spooky, elegant, fun wreath for Halloween. Here’s a look at the Arrange a Wreath Bundle:Arrange a Wreath Bundle, Stampin Up! 154109My spooky spiders were cropped from the Little Treat Boxes Dies, part of the Little Treats Bundle in Stampin’ Up!’s August – December 2020 Mini Catalog. There’s such a beautiful detail in the spider’s back that I love so much! Here’s a look at this bundle:Little Treats Bundle, Stampin Up! 155204I added a red rhinestone to turn this creepy spider into a black widow. Spooky!
  • A Perfect Band. I followed Donna’s sketch to a “t”. I was challenged by the fact that the band in her sketch stopped at the start of the circle in the center. Here’s a close look at the band on my card:Wreath Builder Dies, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Halloween wreathHere’s how I did it:
    • I cut a band Real Red cardstock that would reach all the way across my card front.
    • I used the Wreath Builder Dies to crop a wreath from the center of the Real Red band, discarding the center cutout. I also used the Wreath Builder Dies to crop a Basic Gray wreath.
    • I glued one end of the Real Red band to the side of the front panel and pieced the Basic Gray wreath inside the band and glued it down.
    • I carefully pieced the other side of the wreath together and glued the elements on that side of the wreath.
    • I cropped the wreath with Smoky Slate cardstock and glued it over the Basic Gray wreath, rotating it slightly.
  • Red for Halloween. With my black widows and their red rhinestone backs, I knew I would have fun accenting this Halloween card with Real Red – not the first color you think of for Halloween, right? A red band, red rhinestone backs and a beautiful red bow. If you like this mix of Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Real Red as much as I do, I hope you will save this for future reference:Stampin Up! Brian, what a creative use of the Arrange a Wreath bundle for a Halloween card! The spiders ? ? ?with their red jewels and that lovely red bow just make for an outstanding card! Great use of the sketch!

    • Thank you so much, Suzie! I’m so glad you like it – it was a fun card to pull together. Had some leftover spiders in my trash can that gave me a little bit of a chill. 🙂

  4. Cool idea..the grays work great for wreath!

  5. Wow! What a fabulous card! You really did a great job on design. How creative to see the wreath as Halloween! Absolutely terrific card designing.

    • 🙂 Thank you so much, Susan! This is probably the third or fourth Halloween wreath I’ve made over the years but never had spiders to nest in it – it’s always great fun! ♥

  6. My friend, I loved loved your card, I couldn’t believe my eyes , on that spider, ???????, at first I that , oh I never thought of that color , then I saw the spider , lol, what a sweet idea , ?????love it loved it ,
    Tfs hugs Frenchie ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

  7. Brian, the spiders are SO cute and the black matte really pulls it all together!

  8. WOW my friend……This card is FANTASTIC. The color combination is a total HIT…..but the little spiders are keeping it SPOOKY real.

  9. Normally spiders are NOT my favorite bug. In fact, I don’t think I have a favorite bug. However, the spiders in your card today have glitz and I love glitz. So – do I love the card or does it creep me out? You guessed it my friend, I love the card.

    • I’m so happy you love it, Grace! I’m not a bug fan, either, but I’m a huge fan of these fancy spiders. Add a rhinestone, and they take on a new life. 🙂

  10. Your idea to inlay the wreath is great! And love your black widows, BTW.

  11. OMGosh this is TOO COOL for this time of the year! I don’t know why but I LOVE IT! I truly dislike spiders but this card is definitely creepy fun with how you did the spiders!

    • Yay! Thank you so much, Tonya! We don’t put wreaths out in Georgia because they would either (a) melt in the heat or (b) become a nest for spiders. 🙂 This was fun to make, though.

  12. I have to say it is creepy, in a good way. Very elegant! And creepy. I love the message on the card, especially with the spiders. Serendipity strikes again, having the spiders in your bin. Did I say creepy? I do find creating can have a lot to do with what is right in front of you at the time, but not everyone would put spiders on a wreath! You rock.

    • Thank you so much, Susan! ♥ To be clear, the spiders in my bin that gave me a chill were the leftover cutout spiders I tossed aside. 🙂 I was so happy to have these spiders to adorn the wreath. 🙂

  13. I absolutely LOVE your card, until I read Halloween I hadn’t noticed the spiders, just thought a stunning card in a beautiful colour combination. However the spiders are a genius add and your card is stunning and very stylish.

  14. Rockin’ the spider wreath. Very timely and most awesome.

  15. Very creative! I gotta say, I could have gotten along without the up close and personal on the spiders!

  16. Brian, you rock!! What a great card. Love the colors as well

  17. It’s a winner Brian! I LOVE IT!!!!

  18. Oh my Brian, I love, love, love this color combo! Perfect wreath for Halloween!

  19. OMG I love this! Best Halloween wreath ever!

  20. Well, I’m late, I know and I’m so sorry, my friend.
Now, this wreath is totally beautiful and oh so much fun.
You know I love spiders, I do, I do!!! You will never, ever catch me squashing one, I just take them outside and place them among my flowers.
But back to your wreath, LOVE IT!!!
The color combination is amazing, the red is so intense and a perfect color for your sweet Black Widow Spiders, all decked up with their Rhine Stones.
Thank you for sharing, and again, I apologize for the lateness of these comments.
    Stay healthy and safe.
    Hugs.
    Maria
