A Cup of Thanks with Press On

This week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge gave me exactly what I was looking for – a sketch to inspire me to make a quick-and-simple card. The sketch was the perfect inspiration, but I started a simple idea and then added a little and a little more until the card (still simple) took a little more time than I had expected. I guess I was just having so much fun that I let the time fly by. Here’s my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge:

And here’s the banner for Karren’s challenge that inspired my card:

  • Press On. Coffee-themed stamp sets and papers are always so popular. Coffee lovers really, really love their coffee (guilty as charged!), but these sets are really great for anyone who knows someone else who loves coffee. Gift cards, sweet tags or handmade cards can be personalized so wonderfully with sets like Press On, new in Stampin’ Up!’s August-December 2020 Mini Catalog. Here’s a look at this wonderful set:Press On, Stampin Up!, Brian KingToday is only the send project I’ve shared with this set. Here’s a look at the first (You can click on the image below to read the original post for this project): Press On, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Cinnamon Cider. While Cinnamon Cider would definitely be the perfect color for a card with a warm cup of cinnamon cider (go figure!), I think it also works wonderfully with a coffee theme. Cinnamon Cider paper and ink come together with white and black to make a beautiful card, but it’s Cinnamon Cider that’s the real star here.Cinnamon Cider, Stampin Up! 2020-2022 In ColorThe two panels of patterned paper that are featured on the focal panel of my card are pulled from the Flowers for Every Season 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Papers. You might not immediately think to look for brown pages in this floral pack of papers, but they are there – and they are wonderful. • Steamy! Every cup of coffee needs a little steam. It’s the heat that makes us wrap our hands around the coup and hold it close to our hearts. As this set does not come with dies, I knew I wouldn’t have anything to build that steam. Alas! I had the perfect thing! Here’s a look at my steaming cup of coffee:  Press On, Flowers for Every Season, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThe “steam” came from one of the dies in the Christmas Cardinal Dies. Christmas Cardinal Dies, Stampin Up! 150640While the designs are created to cut into the paper, leaving a swirly accent in the paper, I cropped the curly-q from a piece of thick Whisper White. Before I cut it out, I attached a piece of Adhesive sheet to the back of the paper – that made it so easy for me to attach the intricate designs to the front of my card. Yay!

At the same time my post went live, the Global Design Project challenge went live – and the theme is Hot Drinks. It might not have been directly inspired by this week’s challenge, but I’m submitting it there, too! It might be “cheating” a little bit, but I’m certainly not going to make TWO coffee cards in one week. πŸ™‚ I certainly hope they are OK with me sharing there, too.
GDP267I hope you’ll pop over to the Freshly Made Sketches site and to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

    Good morning, Brian!
I’m always drawn to coffee cards … love the Cinnamon Cider … and genius using the swirls from the Christmas Cardinals Dies!
Thank you ? and have a great start to your week!

  2. I agree with Suzie ! Very creative in using the swirls from the Cardinal set !
I like this card in it`s modern look ,but very appropriate for lots of people .
Cinnamon is a perfect color choice !

  3. Cinnamon Cider and those retro images couldn’t be a better, creative blend.

  4. Fantastic card my friend. Cinnamon Cider just completes the look.

  5. It is cool how much Cinnamon Cider looks like kraft paper here. Awesome card!

  6. Ah! Cinnamon Cider, my favorite of the new colors. I’m not a coffee drinker but I do love my hot chocolate. I really like the way you used the striped DSP in a slanted direction on the cup holder. I wasn’t sure what to call the band they put on hot take out cups so you don’t burn your hand so I went with cup holder. What would be the correct name for that? Anyway, love the card today and needless to say, I LOVE the colors. LOL

    • Thanks so much, Grace! The coffee sleeve was fun to make – usually the coffee cup has a design on it, and the sleeve is plain. I went the opposite way with this one. So glad you like it – it’s always wonderful to hear from you. β™₯

  7. Beautiful…..i love cinnamon cider! And the steam is perfect! Great card!

  8. Love this card, but especially those sneaky, little beans that dance across the bottom of the page. And yes, kudos for that steam

  9. Brian, I love how you cut the striped paper on a diagonal, very clever!
Such a great card, thanks for sharing.

  10. Brian I love Cinnamon Cider, and totally agree with the others who enjoyed how you used the striped paper in both directions. I can see the fun you were having, adding more to the sketch, great job!

  11. Brilliant use of the swirly die!!!

  12. I’m glad the sketch inspired you! You have created a gorgeous card that is still beautifully clean but still detailed. Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  13. This is awesome Brian! I love the card you’ve created with the, DSP and fab image. Thanks for joining us at FMS this week!

  14. Wow Brian, what a great card. I was scrolling through Mary Fish’s email “Weekly WOW! Picks from my Stampin’ Pretty Pals!” and your card caught my eye…well actually it was the “steam” off the coffee. What a beautiful, simple card. I really love your work!

    • Thank you so much, Laura! I’m so grateful to be spotlighted by Mary and am thankful for your comments. I’m happy you like the card – it was a fun card to make. πŸ™‚
