Season of Thanks with Gather Together

Before I share today’s card, I want to give a big “thank you” to Narelle Farrugia for selecting my Freshly Made Sketches card from last week ago as an honorable mention in Sketch FMS461. I love playing along with challenges for great inspiration. Even though it’s never expected, it’s always nice to be recognized. You can see that card here.

I’m starting to feel the pressure of finishing all my Thanksgiving projects – it’s less than a week away, and I’m not done with the gorgeous maple leaf from the Gather Together Bundle – I love it so. Today, I combined the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches with the color combination at FabFriday to make a simple, layered card perfect for Thanksgiving. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Gather Together. Gathering together is definitely a 2019 phrase – and hopefully it can become “a thing” again in 2021. For this year, though, large gatherings are not the hallmark of the Thanksgiving holidays. When the Gather Together bundle was released last year, I was immediately in love. I’m grateful it returned this year (as a bundle, too!) and have enjoyed using it as much this time as I did before. You might not have it for Thanksgiving, but you’ll want to make sure you have it – it’s a keeper! Here’s a look at the Gather Together Bundle:Gather Together Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153036
  • Wink, Wink. After I stamped each of the leaves in the trio of colors (Cinnamon Cider, Mint Macaron and Bumblebee), I painted over each one with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. Not only did the glitter brush spread the ink that I had just stamped, adding a watercolored effect, but the brush also leaves a beautiful (and slightly terrifying) glitter stain. • Tasteful Textile. I didn’t want to add to much “bold” to the sweet trio of leaves on this card. I tried base panels in different colors and decided the panel needed to be white. At the same time that I wanted it to be simple, I also didn’t want it to be too plain – oh, the delicate balance! The moment I embossed this Thick Whisper White panel with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder, I knew I had arrived. 1. The embossing folder creates a smashing touch of texture!

  2. I agree with Mary ! This is just the type of subtle background that compliments without competing ! Plus the white is a change for Fall .
    Pretty card !

    • Thanks, Sonny! I was surprised by how well the white worked here – it wasn’t my first choice, but it was the one that ultimately worked the best. Thanks for your comments! β™₯

  3. I love how you kept the leaves so light. It looks so fresh! Great card!

  4. This card looks AMAZING my friend. TFS!

  5. Wink of Stella is the perfect touch to many a card…why are you terrified, Brian? Of course, if you squeeze it too hard…that is terrifying when it pools on your card…but, overall…way better than using the ALL TERRIFYING Glitter! πŸ™‚

    • I couldn’t agree with you more, June! Glitter is beautiful in pictures but a trigger in real life. πŸ™‚ I love, love, love Wink of Stella for giving the right amount of shine without being messy. I was only joking when I called it a slightly terrifying glitter stain. It’s actually quite beautiful! β™₯

  6. This is a great take on the sketch. I love the colors and the lightly colored leaves. Very pretty! Enjoy your day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! This is how I first showcased the maple leaf last year – so happy to come full circle with the technique of painting with the Wink of Stella brush. β™₯

  7. Gorgeous card. That textured white layer sets off your sentiment and well placed leaves perfectly!

    • Thank you so much, Susan! I don’t so wanted a colored backdrop for this card, but the white gave me just what I wanted – benefits of paying around until you get what you need. πŸ™‚

Brian, great card! And I really love the Mint Macaron, Bumblebee, and Cinnamon Cider color palette ?
    Have a great weekend!

    • Thanks, Suzie! I agree – it’s a great color combination. I likely would have added Pear Pizzazz to the brown and yellow tones, but this looks pretty amazing with it. Hope your weekend is wonderful! β™₯

  9. Now that’s a thankful card! The simple embossing folder and your choice of colors is so calming, and your message says it all. Just lovely Brian, nice job (as always)!

  10. Love it, Brian – this is still my fave Fall stamp set, and the leaves look great in our colors! A double whammy this week! I so love your work, teamie!

  11. Such an awesome card! Love the shimmery leaves, perfect background too! Glad that you shared another project for the Fab Friday color challenge! πŸ™‚

  12. Gorgeous!! Perfect use of the colors and the sketch! I love your use of that embossing folder – it feels like a warm blanket to me so it’s just right on a fall card! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  14. You’re a rock star to do 2 cards with this combo! I love both but the leaves on this one are special; the glitter wash and great texture are top notch! Thanks for sharing (twice) at Fab Friday πŸ™‚ !!
