Christmas Cheer with Christmas Gleaming

I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. I know it was different from years past, but for good reason.

Before I share today’s card, I want to give a big “thank you” to the Global Design Project team for selecting my coffee-themed card from last week as a winner in Theme Challenge GDP267. What fun! I love playing along with challenges for great inspiration. Even though it’s never expected, it’s always nice to be recognized. You can see that card here.

This week’s GDP challenge is a CAS(E) The Designer Challenge. When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. I was inspired by the fun layout and modern colors on Charlet Mallett’s card for this week’s challenge. Such fun inspiration! Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP268As you can tell, I was inspired by the layout, the colors, the sentiment and the texture on Charlet’s card. What a fun card to make!

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Christmas Gleaming. I was so happy to see that Christmas Gleaming and the coordinating Gleaming Ornaments Punch Pack were carrying forward into Stampin’ Up!’s August – December 2020 Mini Catalog from 2019’s Holiday Catalog. I was even MORE excited to see that the stamp set, punches and Designer Series Paper are offered as a bundle – with 10% off each when you buy all three together. Oh, joy! Here’s a look at this incredible bundle: Christmas Gleaming Bundle, Stampin Up! 156082Here are some other projects I have created with these products (you can click on the photos to see the original post for each):Itty Bitty Christmas, Gleaming Ornaments Punch Pack, Pine Tree Punch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Christmas card Brightly Gleaming, Itty Bitty Christmas, Gleaming Ornaments, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Brightly Gleaming, Itty Bitty Christmas, Pine Tree Punch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Sweet Texture. Behind the layers of ornaments, holly and sentiment is a Smoky Slate band of cardstock that’s textured with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder, one of my all-time favorites. I love the “I just want to run my finger over it” texture this embossing folder adds to a project – I’ve used it a lot and have never been disappointed by that decision. Here’s a look at the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder:Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder, Stampin Up!, 152718Texture is always a good idea on a card. If you have the right colors and the right layout, but are left wanting more, a shiny ribbon or textured background might do the trick to complete your card – anything that makes your recipient want to run their finger over elements on the card.
  • Color Combination. I love the simple layout of Charlet’s card – it inspired my collection of holly, ornaments and sentiment on my card – here’s a closer look: Brightly Gleaming, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Christmas cardI punched the two ornaments and hand-snipped the holly (go, me!). I know it’s not a traditional color combination for Christmas, but it’s really quite lovely, don’t you think? If you like this mix of Blushing Bride, Smoky Slate and Basic Black as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this color inspiration graphic for future reference:Stampin Up!
