Sale-a-Bration for the Candy Hearts Blog Hop

Candy Ford is a member of my InKing Royalty team and has a great group of her own, The Candy Hearts. I don’t participate in a lot of blog hops, but I’m happy to participate in today’s Candy Hearts Blog Hop.

Candy Hearts Blog Hop

News Flash!

Sale-a-Bration kicked off last week, giving us so many great products we can choose for free with every $50 or $100 we spend. The Level One options (free with a $50 purchase) include a variety of Designer Series Papers and super-fun stamp set. To see all of the Sale-a-Bration options you can earn, CLICK HERE. I chose Approaching Perfection for today’s card. Here’s my project:

Approaching Perfection, Wrapped Bouquet, Stampin Up!, Brian King, birthday cardThere are so many ways to celebrate birthdays. Yesterday’s card for my Mom’s birthday featured pink flowers and beautiful papers. Today’s features black, grays and white with a fun sentiment from Approaching perfection. Here’s a closer look a the Approaching Perfection stamp set:

Approaching Perfection, Stampin Up! 155282Along with these INCREDIBLE sentiments (you should really take the time to read each one), there are some fun images with a balloon and collection of candles. These sentiments might not be exactly right for all of your birthday cards, but I’m sure they are exactly right for some of them – you know which of your friends and family would like a snarky, silly funny card, right?!

There are two “news-themed” sentiments in the Approaching Perfection stamp set – I love both. As soon as I chose the sentiment for my card, I knew I needed to add a background of newsprint from the beautiful Wrapped Bouquet stamp set. The Wrapped Bouquet bundle gives us beautiful flowers wrapped in newspaper – and one of the images is newsprint that we can stamp and crop with a die that creates the newsprint wrap. What fun! I used that stamp to created the bold background just below the sentiment and the lighter background behind that. Here’s a closer look:

While many birthday cards call for bright, bold colors, this newspaper-themed card is perfect in black, white and grays. I’ve used this combination of colors for formal wedding cards and anniversary cards – even Halloween cards – but I think this is the first time I’ve used them for a birthday. If you like this mix of Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Basic Black as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this graphic for future reference:

  4. You did a great job making this look like real newsprint. Fun card!

  5. Brian, I love this fun card. Great job on using the newsprint stamp. I like that it is illegible. Of course, this card could be sent to anyone but I think it makes a great masculine card, which are the ones most difficult for me. Enjoy your day!

  6. What a fun sentiment, how did I overlook it! Brian, thank you for always bringing stamps to my attention!

  7. The background just puts this card up to the next level. OH SO FUN!!!
