Happy Birthday, Guy!

I’m up to my old tricks today – my card features a favorite background technique and a much-used halo of vellum. The mix of the two makes me so happy as I use two favorites from Stampin’ Up!’s (still new) January – June 2021 Mini Catalog. This card is also perfectly stylish and fun to celebrate you favorite guy’s birthday. Here’s my card:

You Are Amazing, Well Suited Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian King, guy birthday card

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Build-a-Chevron. My card features five strips of one diagonally-striped pattern from the Well Dressed Designer Series Paper to create an entirely new pattern on the front of my card. This is one of my favorite techniques to play with when I find a bold, diagonal stripe I love. I want to talk you through how I did this, but first let’s look at the paper I used. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the guy-friendly and oh-so-fashionable Well Dressed Designer Series Paper: Well Suited Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 154562Here’s a look at the page I used for my card (you can click on the image below to flip through all of the pages in this pack of papers): Well Suited Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 154562I cut 1″ strips from this 12″ page – 2 strips off one side of the page (top-to-bottom as shown above) and then 1 strip off another (left-to-right as shows above). This created diagonals that move in different directions. Because the pattern is so consistent (thick Night of Navy, thin Cajun Craze, super-thin white, thin Cajun Craze, thick Night of Navy…) I knew the patterns would line up perfectly. I glued the strips to a panel of Basic White cardstock and trimmed the sides and top to measure 4-1/2″ x 3-1/4″. I mounted that panel on a piece of Thick Basic White that measures 4-5/8″ x 3-3/8″. It was just the right amount of pattern for the front of my card!
  • You Are Amazing – No, Really, You Are. If you flipped right past the kits at the front of the January – June 2021 Mini Catalog, then you missed one of my favorite stamp sets in this catalog. While it coordinates with the You Are Amazing Project Kit, it’s sold separately (and works perfectly outside of the kit). Here’s a look at the super-fun sentiments in the You Are Amazing stamp set: You Are Amazing, Stampin Up!, 154534This stylish “Happy Birthday” is perfect for a guy card, but it’s also perfect with this fashion-themed paper. I stamped the sentiment with Night of Navy ink and cropped it with an oval Stitched Shapes Die. I cropped a larger oval from Vellum Cardstock with the same set of dies and attached the sentiment to the vellum oval with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I placed another layer of Stampin’ Dimensionals on the vellum layer (lined up with the first set of Stampin’ Dimensionals) and attached that to the patterned card panel. Here’s a closer look at both the vellum layer and the chevron pattern: You Are Amazing, Well Suited Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian King, guy birthday card
  • Crisp Color Combination. Let’s not fool ourselves – everything looks great with Night of Navy, right? This pattern, with bold Night of Navy and Cajun Craze stripes and a pinstripe of Basic White, makes me so happy! It’s so sophisticated but still has some fun color for a beautiful card you can give to any guy in your life. If you like this mix of Basic White, Cajun Craze and Night of Navy as much as I do, I hope you will save this for future reference: Stampin Up! What do you think? There are several great papers in this new catalog that feature great stripes that I can maneuver into a chevron pattern – don’t think you won’t see it again before this catalog is done. 🙂
