They Say It’s Your Birthday for the Be Inspired Blog Hop

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun! The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you. I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

For today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop, we are sharing projects centered around birthday celebrations for children – is there anything more fun than that?! We hope our projects inspire you and that you leave with lots of fun ideas! If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from the amazing project shared by my talented friend Carolynn Sander.

They Say It’s Your Birthday

I’m certain you are going to see a lot of adorable birthday cards in today’s hop – bright colors, party hats, balloons and festive animals. All are PERFECT and exactly what we think of when we look for a child’s birthday card. My card, though, is specifically designed for an older child (let’s say he’s turning 11). He’s too old for baby animals but still wants to celebrate his birthday with friends and family. Maybe he just wants the presents that come with such a celebration. Let’s cut to the chase – he wants a card and a wad of cash. He loves that you thought of him. Here’s my notecard-sized card for today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop:

I think I bought this set of dies for the word balloons – and I couldn’t be happier. Here’s a look at the Special Day Dies:

Special Day Dies, Stampin Up! 153587Kids love bright colors, but the 11-year-old boy who receives this card loves the mix of sophisticated colors in a tie-dye design. I cropped the word balloons from a variety of watercolored spot pages in the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers:

Ice Cream Corner Stampin Up!As if the depth of color in the watercolored images used to create the word balloons wasn’t enough, I framed the focal panel with a Bermuda Bay ombré page from the Oh So Ombre 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, which can be selected as your free gift with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration. The colors used to make this card are fun and festive, but they are also a sophisticated mix of beautiful tones. If you like this mix of Old Olive, Bermuda Bay and Terracotta Tile as much as I do, I hope you will save this for future reference:

  1. Reminds me of a song……and four adorable shaggy haired Brits…..fun card!

    • While I wouldn’t expect an average 11 year-old to get the reference or sing the song that comes with it, the cool recipient of this card will certainly get it! Thanks, Linda!

  2. You nailed the inspiring part of this challenge. Love this non-traditional kid’s card. He will be thrilled with the card and the wad of cash. Green is usually their favorite colored present!! Very clever. Enjoy your day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! I’m so glad you like it – I struggled with this one and worried it wouldn’t be “cutesy” enough for a child-themed hop. I know it will be well-received. ♥

  3. Perfect for the older child!

  4. Another super clever card!

  5. Brilliant use of the word bubbles! Fun and flashy!

  6. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS ONE BRIAN! Your perfect placement of the word balloons is amazing. How clever to cut them from DSP. Great card for ANY age if you ask me. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thanks so much, Grace! It was much easier to line these up with my Multipurpose Liquid Glue because I could slide them a little bit before letting the glue set. Also…I placed them at an angle to hide any imperfections in my lineup. 🙂

  7. Clever and cute ,,,, the card that is! Well, you too!

  8. I love this! I find it so hard to design cards for pre-teens and teenagers, especially boys. You nailed it.

    • Thanks so much, Donna! I tried to make something that’s aesthetically pleasing without being too pretty or too cool or too fun or too handsome. In my estimation, that’s the key to designing for any near-teen child.

  9. Love your card Brian, so fun and clever x
