It’s been a year since we have been able to hit the town with friends and family – no big dinners, no parties, no late night gatherings. While I’ve missed dinners out and celebrating out with friends, all of my friends know I’ve not missed late night get togethers. While it’s possible I might catch my second wind at some point in the night, it’s equally possible I might fall asleep in a chair while everyone else enjoys their evening. With that in mind, I love the sentiment I added to this birthday card. Here’s my card:
I’ve wanted to make a card with these paint stripes and this sentiment for a while – it was Linda Callahan’s Freshly Made Sketches layout this week that inspired me to make it. So fun! Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Brushed Blooms. The Brushed Blooms Bundle includes beautiful flowers, paint splotches and some great, versatile sentiments. I cropped these paint strips from a variety of bright colors to create a strip of paint across the backdrop of the focal panel on my card. Here’s a look at the Brushed Blooms Bundle:
Not only do these detailed floral dies layer with the stamped flowers, but they layer with each other for some beautiful texture. I used the textured paint swipes here for a fun stripe across the back of my card. Here’s a closer look at the texture in these paint swipes:
- Awesome at Any Age. Over the years, I’ve loved working with the fun, celebratory sentiments in the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set – they come in handy for birthdays and any other causes for celebration. Love that! The size makes them perfect additions to the front or inside of a card (they are even perfect to adorn the outside of a card). Here’s a look at this oh-so-fun stamp set:
As Stampin’ Up! plans to soon release the list of products retiring from the 2020 Annual Catalog, I’m keeping my fingers crossed this one will carry over – it’s a handy addition to any stamp collection, and I reach for it often.
- Strip of Swipes. The die that cuts the paint swipes includes five swipes that are connected together to cut the swipes out of a panel. I ran the die through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with several different colors so I could decide which colors to showcase in the strip of swipes. I landed on a bright, cheery mix of yellow, purple, blue, green and red that ended up looking like a sweater from the 1980’s. If you like this mix of Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Bundles: Brushed Blooms Bundle Stamp Sets: Brushed Blooms, Itty Bitty Birthdays Papers: Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade, Basic Black, Basic White Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black Accessories: Beautiful Brushstrokes Dies, 2″ Circle Punch, Layering Circles Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Freshly Made Sketches site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Talking about an inspiration sample, wow Brian, I never would have thought to do this layout. Perfection at its best! Love how your brain works. Letter grade for this is A+.

Love, love the way you used those bold blocks of color!
♥ Thanks so much, Mary!
Good morning, Brian!
Love this card! Where we live down here in SW Florida, “9:00 PM” is referred to as “Sanibel Midnight”! The color palette and the placement are AWESOME! Thank you, B!
Sanibel Midnight – I love that so much, Suzie! In Charleston, we had the “Charleston tuxedo” which was khakis, a dress shirt and a blue blazer. 🙂
Using those paint strips for the stripes is awesome as well! I love the bright splashes of color! Thanks for making my sketch look fab!
I think you did well enough with making your sketch fab, my friend! So glad you like it. ♥

♥ Thank you so much, Windy! Had fun with these little cutouts.
WOW Brian! Today’s card SCREAMS Happy!!! The color combination you used couldn’t be any more cheerful and it would definitely put a smile on any recipients face! I would never have thought of using paint splotches instead of paper strips. You continually amaze me with your artistic insight. WOW
You are too good to me, Grace! Thank you so much for your kind comments. ♥

Great card! I can identify with the sentiment!
Isn’t it the best?! I don’t always find funny things funny, but THIS is funny.
So colorful, so fabulous! And I can totally relate to the 9:00 bedtime! LOL! Thanks for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches!
Ohh!! Love, love the sentiment, really pick me up kind of words!!!
And I love those bold colors on the fabulous die-cuts for the stripes on the sketch, fun, fun!!
Sorry I’ve been absent, after a year of 99% confinement, the days just melt into each other, I sometimes feel absent-minded, I miss my grandkids, they call us or text us but it’s not the same, I miss the reunions and shopping/lunch days with my aunt Norma, I miss my swimming buddies at the YMCA, I miss things being NORMAL.
Anyway, my dear, thank you for always inspiring, I wish I would have checked this post earlier, that sketch is awesome.
Stay healthy and safe, Brian.
