Turtle-y Loved

Some things are just cute, and some things are just corny. Every once in a while, though, something is so cute and so corny that it’s just wonderful! At first pass, I dismissed Stampin’ Up!’s Turtle Friends as corny – but the more I studied it, the more I fell in love with how cute and wonderfully corny it is. I used this bundle from the 2021 Annual Catalog to make this card for this week’s sketch at The Paper Players. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Turtle Friends Bundle. I mean, really! How cute is that turtle? And the sentiment “you are turtle-y loved” is so corny that it’s wonderful! I couldn’t pass up this bundle as soon as I saw that one. And then there’s “time to shell-a-brate” in the shape of the turtle’s shell. And don’t get me started about the belated birthday sentiment. How fun! On top of all of that, there are little turtles, a bird and all the makings of a fun party. I can’t pass up a bunch bundle, but this one didn’t take a lot of convincing once I really looked carefully at the bundle. Here’s a look at the Turtle Friends Bundle, which includes the Turtle Friends photopolymer stamp set and Turtle Punch:Turtle Friends Bundle, Stampin Up! 155819I stamped my turtle with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and cropped him with the Turtle Punch. I then colored my turtle’s body with Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends and his shell with a Light Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blend. After I colored him all in, I stamped the pattern of his shell with Just Jade ink. Here’s a closer look: Turtle Friends, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Sweet Symmetry. Instead of just adding a panel of paper at the base of my turtle, I added three strips of a Just Jade pattern from the Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper (see the picture above). The strips measure 1/2″, 1/4″ and 1/8″ tall and are spaced slightly apart to let the Balmy Blue pop through a bit. Here’s a look at the gorgeous patterns and colors in the Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper: Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 155605The tone-on-tone pattern adds something fun to the ground beneath my turtle without distracting you from the adorable guy.
  • Color Combination. The three standout colors in my card represent grass, sky and love. Just Jade, Balmy Blue and Flirty Flamingo gave me exactly what I needed for a blend of bright and soft tones. If you like this mix of Flirty Flamingo, Just Jade and Balmy Blue, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin Up! Color Inspiration - Flirty Flamingo, Just Jade, Balmy Blue

    • Thanks, Bobbi. Here’s a tip – pile all the things you haven’t used on one table and don’t remove them until you’ve used them. Brilliant, huh? No stamps uninked…

    • πŸ™‚ So glad you like it, Katrina! The turtles are so cute! There are only two options with the “leave everything out until it’s used theory” – carefully pull out the stamps you want to work with or make a lot of cards. πŸ™‚
