Honoring Hanukkah with Current Stampin’ Up! Products

While there are no current Hanukkah-themed stamp sets, papers or dies in Stampin’ Up!’s current offering, we aren’t prohibited from making gorgeous cards to celebrate or honor Hanukkah. You might have to be a little creative, but there’s nothing wrong with that! Here’s a Happy Hanukkah card I made to share with you today:

Snowflake Wishes, Textures & Frames, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Hanukkah card

Before I share how I made the Star of David that’s at the center of this card, let’s look at the other elements.

The Misty Moonlight panel that provides a backdrop for the focal panel on this card looks regal here, but it’s from a decidedly festive pack of papers – the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper from the August – September Sale-a-Bration brochure. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers:

Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 158420The Star of David rests of a flurry of soft Pool Party circles. This backdrop, too, was created with a great Sale-a-Bration product – the Textures & Frames Photopolymer Stamp set. I inked the circle with Pool Party ink and stamped each one off once on scrap paper. I stamped the circle six times, representing the six points of the Star of David. Here’s a look at the Textures & Frames stamp set:

Building a Star of David with Stitched Triangles Dies, Stampin Up!, Brian King

Did you notice how the star is built with carefully over-and-under lines? If you didn’t, please take a moment to look again at the picture above. To build the two triangles that create the Star of David on my card, I layered two equilateral triangles from the Stitched Triangles Dies on a strip of Post-it Tape to keep them equally distant from one another:

Building a Star of David with Stitched Triangles Dies, Stampin Up!, Brian KingI ran that through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine twice, cropping the triangles from Misty Moonlight cardstock. I positioned them over each other so the tiny triangles on the outsides of the star were the same and so that I created a perfect octagon in the center of my star. I snipped one intersection of the two triangles and then positioned them so they could weave in and out (the snipped one, of course, was designed to weave under. I added Mini Glue Dots (folded over) on the cross-sections of the star to both hold them together and to add them to my card panel.

The sentiment is from the Snowflake Wishes stamp set, a carryover from last year’s Holiday Mini that is featured in the 2021 Annual Catalog. Finally I added Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems, another carryover from last year’s Holiday Mini to this year’s Annual Catalog. Here’s a full rundown of all the products I used on this card:

Stamp Sets: Textures & Frames, Snowflake Wishes  Papers: Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, Pool Party, Misty Moonlight, Basic White  Inks: Pool Party, Misty Moonlight  Accessories: Stitched Triangles Dies, Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems, Mini Glue Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope this project has inspired you to look a little differently at some of the products you already have to see who you can turn them into a fun project. I guarantee you the recipient of this card will love it (and will never know that these products weren’t specifically designed from Hanukkah). ♥

Thanks for stopping by today!

  2. The Hanukkah card you created is beautiful for many reasons. Thank you, Brian, for the thought that went into this. The interwoven triangles and your color choices really stand out. I’m lucky to have you as my demo, and SU is so fortunate to have you representing their company. Hope your day is as happy as you’ve made mine.

  3. Wow! Brian, you are so clever with the great tips on making the open triangles and weaving them together. Very pretty card. Enjoy your day!

  4. Awesome card…love the Pool Party circles your create to showcase your Star Of David!

  5. Oh Brian – you ae amazing! I wish I knew how your brain works so I could try to train mine to be more like yours. You just saved me that yearly trip to the Hallmark store that I make every year for the 4 Hanukah cards I need for the holidays. I see total perfection in this card. It is just beautiful!

  6. This card is AMAZING my friend. Thanks for all the great tips on creating this card.

  7. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Thank you so much for giving us an opportunity to use our Stampin’ Up supplies for our Holy Day cards.

  8. Beautiful card, Brian. Once again you have made math fun with your ‘equilateral triangles’!!

  9. Love this Brian. I’m always looking for Hanukkah ideas and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing.

  10. Brian, I hope you’re beaming with pride, all the lovely statements above are a true testament to your heart and creativity. Well done Brian!!!

    • Awwww…thank you so much, Katrina! This was a fun challenge for me, and I’m happy to be able to share what I came up with. You are too kind! ♥

  11. Brian, you are such a class act. Thank you for figuring out an elegant way for the rest of us to represent Hanukkah in an easily duplicated fashion without investing in additional stamps and dies.
    Beautiful card!

  12. Brian, I actually already purchased Snowflake Wishes along with a few other supplies to make my Hanukkah cards. I received the Penguin DSP from SAB to use for them, too. Today I have the Stitched Triangles on my order form! 🔯🕎 It’s so nice to see other Demonstrators thinking out of the box for Hanukkah cards! Great idea and beautiful card!

    • I’m so happy to share, Heidi! There’s also a Star of David outline in the Starlit Punch – it’s just not as detailed as this one is. So glad you like it. ♥

  13. How very clever you are Brian! Your cards always feature so many levels of creativity. Thank you for all your inspiring elements. I will definitely use the tape idea when I need to cut frames/borders. That is genius!

  14. Any way you could do a video or tutorial on how you cut and put together the triangles? I know my Jewish friends would LOVE to receive such a card from me! It is stunning!

    • Thank you so much, Kim! I enjoyed playing with this to get it to work for me. The best suggestion I can make is to read what I described above and play with it. You’ll have fun with it, and I know your friends will love it.

  15. You are just SO CLEVER Brian! I would have never thought of using triangle dies to create the Star of David. Great job! Absolutely love your card!

    • Thank you so much, Tonya! I originally set out to build a Star of David from two triangles, but that just looked like two triangles. I was so happy when I thought to build the lines because it really came together after that. So glad you like it! ♥

  16. Through the years I’ve said it many times, but I say it again; “Genius”!

  17. Thank you Brian for the beautiful Hanukah card. Maybe Stampin Up needs to have you join their design concept team. Every year they keep forgetting to add a stamp set that is strictly Hanukkah themed. Jewish Celebrations was the most beautiful stamp set for Hanukkah they ever made. It sells on the secondary market for 2 to 3 times the original price.

    • Thank you for your comments, Donata. I’ve brought this issue to Stampin’ Up! before, and I understand their response. I’m told that Hanukkah-themed products have always been welcomed but don’t sell well at all. Regardless, we have some options to make gorgeous cards that honor Hanukkah, too. Thanks! ♥

  18. The Jews of the Stampin’ Up community and their friends so appreciate you thinking of us in designing this card. I had forgotten about the triangle dies in thinking ahead for Chanukah.

  19. Thank you, Brian, for this gorgeous card! I wish that SU was as thoughtful as you. I appreciate your inclusivity.

  20. Hi Brian! I’m a long time follower of your blog, but first time commenter. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to get creative with a Hanukkah card. As mentioned by Yapha and Robin above, your inclusivity for those of us who don’t celebrate Christmas is very appreciated! Also, I’d purchased the triangle dies for this purpose, and now you’ve taken the guesswork out of it 🙂 Thank you so much for the joy you bring to this little corner of the internet.

  21. You are so clever! Now I have to order these dies! thanks for the great idea!

  22. Genius! What a great idea and very pretty card besides!
