Fun Color Inspiration for Autumn

I love playing with colors – and I’m always inspired by great combinations of the shades in Stampin’ Up!’s color families. In the months between Halloween and Christmas, we witness a transition of colors that informs how we celebrate each holiday:

  • Halloween.  With its blacks and oranges, Halloween is typically dark and solemn.  Little pops of color and lightness can turn dreary into festive – you can even make Halloween sweet with the right combination of colors.
  • Thanksgiving.  Browns and musty yellows that mimic the fallen leaves let us know that Thanksgiving and Fall have arrived. Again, pops of oranges and greens accent the traditional holiday colors, but Thanksgiving is all about the neutral tones.
  • Christmas.  The traditional colors of Christmas are red and green. Whether they are paired as bold-and-bright or as rich-and-regal,  Christmas is traditionally framed with its reds and greens.

In a couple of posts spread over the next couple of weeks, I’m sharing some color inspiration for each of these holidays. I’ve shared similar posts in the past, but these have been updated to include new combinations with new colors. New colors, new combinations, new inspirations.

I’ve already shared my post about fun Halloween Color Combinations – you can see that post here. Today is all about the second of the “big three” – Thanksgiving, including Autumn.

Building Beautiful Autumn Color Combinations

It’s fun to create your own combination of colors for the holidays. Here’s a quick-and-easy chart I created to help you pick the right combination of colors for Autumn. This is meant to be a “starter” chart if you are having a hard time getting started. Please save this and share it with your friends and customers to inspire them.

Stampin Up! Color Inspiration for Autumn

A Step-by-Step Description of this Chart

  • CHOOSE A BROWN/YELLOW:  Browns and yellows are found in leaves, trees, cornucopias and baked goods. The warmth of these tones can really set the mood for a beautiful Thanksgiving or Autumn project. While this “starter” chart encourages you to pick ONE color from this column, any mix of yellows and browns is beautiful – you might want to pick two.
  • CHOOSE A RED OR ORANGE: Reds and oranges are part of the transition of leaves and color of fire in Fall. Apples and pumpkins are great symbols of the time of year, too, and find themselves on a lot of our projects.
  • CHOOSE AN UNEXPECTED COLOR:  Once you’ve selected your combination from the first two columns, you’re ready to add a defining, unexpected color. These colors ensure you don’t produce a run-of-the-mill Thanksgiving project and can put a refreshing spin on Fall. Remember – these are just some suggestions to help give you a starting point.

How easy is that?  Of course you can switch out the colors with almost any colors in the Stampin’ Up! family – these options are only here to help you get started. Picture these combinations in your mind’s eye to see how each one offers its very own flavor to the holiday.
