Yesterday I shared a sweet-and-simple card with the Christmas Trees Dies and one of my all-time favorite color combinations (bright red and soft, aqua blue). If you missed that project, you can see it and read all about it here. I love the card, but it’s not super-special – still, there are a couple of things I didn’t tell you about that card (I couldn’t fit it all into one post). As such, I’m back today to share a couple more things about the history behind the card (sounds epic, huh?), a tip for saving paper with some die cuts and the measurements from my card.
Inspiration
For the past week, I’ve been sharing tags from a Christmas tags class I hosted last weekend. The first tag I made for this event (which included a total of seven tags) was a sweet-and-simple tag with two little Christmas Trees. Here’s that tag (along with the card I shared with you yesterday):
I decided to not showcase this tag alone since the Tailor Made Tags went on backorder after I made these with the folks at my small event. As such I decide to re-make the tag for you yesterday, turning it into a card and opting for a different sentiment (I really both of these sentiments). Here’s a look at my card with my tag:
A Cutting Tip
I also wanted to share a quick tip that may come in handy when building landscapes or other elements on a project where you don’t use the entire cutout. Here’s how I built the snowy landscape on my card and tag:
Do you see the little marks on my Stitched Rectangles Die? I added those marks with a Sharpie marker. With those dots to line up with my cardstock, I can save paper and get a consistent crop for multiple snowy hills. While I was cutting multiples, I noticed the marks started to disappear, to I reapplied the Sharpie. When I’m done with this project, I little rubbing alcohol will take the remaining marks away.
Measurements
I played with so many different layer sizes to get the balance of shapes and colors I wanted on my card. Since I fiddled around so much, I thought I would share my measurements with you (starting from the base of the card and working my way up to the sentiment):
- Real Red – 4-1/4″ x 11″ (scored at 5-1/2″)
- Basic White – 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Just Jade – 3-1/8″ x 4-3/8″
- Pool Party – 3″ x 4-1/4″
