I can’t believe we are already entering a new year! Doesn’t it seem like we just rang in 2021?! Whether you ushered in the new year with a huge celebration, quietly rested in your chair with your puppy until the folks on TV said it was 2022 or welcomed the new year after waking up this morning (because you deserved to sleep right through it), I hope you celebrated exactly the way you wanted. As you look to the new year, I hope your 2022 is filled with wonderful, new things – and a lot more art. That’s what inspired me to make this card:
I created this mess-free splatter background with three reinkers and a drinking straw (paper straws work just as well as plastic if you prefer). Here’s how I did it:
- I selected three reinkers that I thought would look great together. I chose Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight and Flirty Flamingo. Note – they will come out a bit richer than you expect (my Coastal Cabana looks more like Bermuda Bay).
- I dropped one color of reinker on the page and immediately began to blow the pool of ink with my straw. Since you are using your own breath to blow the ink, give yourself time to catch your breath between takes.
- I moved around the page, alternating colors and creating splatters where I wanted them.
- Be sure to blow the ink in multiple directions to form a variety of splatters.
I used Thick Basic White cardstock and know I would have a achieved a cleaner result with Shimmery White Cardstock, but who’s got time to remake stuff? 🙂 Here’s a closer look:
The sentiment on my card is the same sentiment I used 365 days ago to ring in 2021 – it’s a great saying from Best Year. Here’s the card I shared last year (you can click on the photo to see the original post for this project):
Here’s a look at the Best Year cling stamp set that’s still available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2021 Annual Catalog:
Once the ink dried, the concentration of colors was richer and deeper than expected (that’s why I framed the focal panel of my card with Bermuda Bay). Still, I love the sweet mix of the three reinkers I used on this card – Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight. If you like this combination of bright tones as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Stamp Sets: Best Year Papers: Smoky Slate, Bermuda Bay, Thick Basic White Inks: Bermuda Bay, Reinkers (Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight) Accessories: Stitched Rectangles Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
