With Heartfelt Sympathy

I hope you’ve enjoyed the last two days of One-for-One Swaps. I’ve loved sharing them with you, and there will be more tomorrow! I’m taking a break in the swaps for a beautiful sympathy cards that came together with ease during a difficult time. Here’s my card that showcases the large rose from the Cottage Rose stamp set on the Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper. Here’s my card:

Cottage Rose, Inspired Thoughts, Stampin Up!, Brian King, sympathy cardIt’s always a good idea to have a few sympathy cards on-hand (I have a few in a card box), but sometimes the act of making a sympathy card can be somewhat therapeutic. Sympathy cards are difficult to make in the moment when we are experiencing the loss of a loved one. While it was hard for me to make this card (I didn’t make this ahead of needing to give it), I needed the cathartic release of designing this card in the moment.

I started by coloring a Petal Pink oval on this Smoky Slate page of the Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper (I used the framed oval from the Framed Florets Dies as a stencil, adding Petal Pink ink with a Blending Brush). I was going to stamp and crop the large flower from the Cottage Rose stamp set, but I was intrigued by the idea of having a see-through flower on top of a see-through oval – and I was happy with how it turned out. Here’s a closer look:

Cottage Rose Bundle, Stampin Up! 159048While I only showcased the Smoky Slate panel of Designer Series Paper from the Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper, there are some gorgeous pages in that pack of papers. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper:

Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 159037 I really love the crisp and clean sentiments in the Inspired Thoughts stamp set (also available in the 2022 Annual Catalog). That makes them perfect (in my opinion) for a sympathy card. There’s no added frills – just the important words. Here’s a look at the Inspired Thoughts stamp set:

Inspired Thoughts, Stampin Up!, 155536I stamped the accompanying sentiment inside the card and added a stamped-off leaf from the Cottage Rose stamp set:

  2. Sending deepest sympathy for this loss. This is a beautiful card…I feel the same way (sometimes, I am so glad I can go to my card box and choose a sympathy card that I’d previously made and other times, none of the prior ones is the “right” one and it helps process the loss to sit and make just the right one for that particular person. Thoughts and prayers to you.💜
