I hosted my monthly Zoom call with my Paper Pumpkin customers yesterday. During our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call, I share some fun ideas with the items included in the monthly kit, and my customers share their brilliant ideas. I’m always impressed by what others are making and love to spend that time with my customers who participate. Sometimes we rush through our projects and then just chat for the rest of the time.
Today I’m sharing some alternative projects with this last month’s Key to My Heart kit – a collection of locks and keys with a love theme. The colors are soft and sweet, and the gold accents are beautiful. Before I share my alternatives, here’s a look at the finished projects (as designed) from the January 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit:

Alternative Projects
As always, I designed a handful of projects to share with my customers during our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call – I’m sharing three of them with you today.
Here’s a look at three of my alternative projects with this kit:
Now for a closer look at each of these projects.
Key to My Heart
When I open my Paper Pumpkin kits, I often go right to the envelopes that always have a beautiful print that can be showcased in a card. This kit was no exception. Here’s a card I made with elements from the kit, including the liner from the envelope:
The Fresh Freesia panel with all the keys provides a sweet backdrop for the focal panel on my card. I cropped the grid panel from one of the card bases and heat embossed this sentiment from the stamp set. Fresh Freesia is a beautiful color, but it was soooo sweet that I needed to add Basic Gray to tone down the sweetness. The heart lock and key is a fun accent on this card.
I Love You
There are two designs in the kit with a gold grid – one is on Fresh Freesia and one is on Petal Pink. I cropped the Petal Pink panel to make this card:
The grid panel and sentiment are the only elements from the kit. The oval is cropped with Petal Pink cardstock using the Framed Florets Dies. The flowers are stamped with Early Espresso on Thick Basic White with the Dainty Delight stamp set and cropped with the coordinating dies. Here’s a look at this must-have bundle:
While the sentiment, stamped flowers and border look black in the photo of the project, they are actually Early Espresso, which looks lovely with Petal Pink. After the Early Espresso ink dried, I colored the flowers with Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends and the leaves with Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blends.
To My Valentine
The locks and keys are sweet, but they didn’t feel like traditional Valentine’s Day elements. Using the stamp set that comes with the kit and a couple of other elements, I made this card:
Just like I used Basic Gray to tone down the sweetness of Fresh Freesia in the first project, I reached for Poppy Parade to tone down the sweetness of Petal Pink for this card. I stamped the hearts on a panel of Petal Pink Designer Series Paper from the Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper (one of the Level 2 Sale-a-Bration items that can be selected with a $100 order during Sale-a-Bration). I stamped the sentiment on one of the banners from the kit and punched the heart with Poppy Parade cardstock and Petal Pink cardstock using the Heart Punch Pack. This card feels like Valentine’s Day, doesn’t it?!

Great alternatives! I never (well, very rarely) use the Paper Pumpkin kits as distributed because I always love the repurposing of piecess-parts into new (often more enticing, to my mind) designs. Thanks for the inspiration ~off to CASE!!
I’m so happy you like them, Linda! I thought it would be difficult to work with the elements of this kit (not my style), but these came together easily. Enjoy!
OK another post that never came to my in box or heaven forbid the junk file. I like your projects. I am still at a loss for the keys and locks as I can’t see me saying something about the key to my heart blah, blah, and more blah. Maybe I will just put the keys and padlocks in the Art Box for someone else. I used the other stuff on some alternatives.
