Please … Do Not Look Directly at this Card

Tomorrow’s total eclipse will be quite a spectacle. While Atlanta won’t be in the direct path of the the moon’s eclipse of the sun, I’m anticipating the excitement of it all. While we won’t experience darkness in the afternoon in Atlanta, I’m thinking I should log off from work and take a nap. Maybe? Thanks so much for your support of my support of the eclipse.

I wasn’t certain I would have the products to recreate an eclipse, but two  soon-to-retire stamp sets – Rays of Light and Reach for the Stars. Here’s the card I made:

Rays of Light, Reach for the Stars, Stampin Up!, Brian King, solar eclipse card

I’ve reached for Rays of Light many times over the years – what a spectacular background stamp set! This set retires on April 30 or when products sell out – don’t miss it! Here’s a look at Rays of Light:

Rays of Light, Stampin Up! 158925I stamped the Rays of Light image on Daffodil Delight cardstock and cropped it to a 3-3/4″ x 3″ panel. I framed that panel with Basic Black cardstock and another panel of Daffodil Delight cardstock A 1″ circle fits perfectly inside the sun at the heart of the image, so I cropped a piece of Basic Black to block the sun. Eclipse achieved!

I looked all over for “see you” sentiments, certain I’d find something cute. There may still be one there, but my search was over when I found “you’re stellar” in the Reach for the Stars Bundle, also retiring on April 30 or when supplies run out. Here’s a look at this bundle:

Reach for the Stars Bundle, Stampin Up! 161186There’s not a lot of color on my card, but you wouldn’t expect bright colors when the sun is blocked, right?! I really loved the mix of this bright yellow with the dark gray and black tones. If you like this mix of Daffodil Delight, Basic Gray and Basic Black as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this:

  10. Clever card! If you’re in the path of totality, you’re able to take your glasses off for a couple of minutes while the sun is completely covered. You’d be surprised and delighted at the colours of the sun’s corona. I’ve yet to find a photo, even by a professional, that captures the true beauty of a total eclipse. We saw the eclipse in Idaho in 2017. What a magical experience. I’m hoping everyone in the path this year gets clear skies. They’re in for a once-in-a-lifetime treat.

    • It sounds pretty amazing, Doris! I’d have to travel a bit to be in the direct path (I don’t even think we’ll experience a touch of darkness), but I’m still excited to see what happens in other areas. Hoping there are some great photographs from this. What fun! Thanks for your comments!

  11. I can’t stop giggling about this. Perfect for today’s solar eclipse!
