Do you have a mug you reach for every time you make coffee or tea? I have a few, and one of my favorites is a bright green mug with a blue glaze inside. The Starbucks mug (with a design by artist Monyee Chau) features fun leaves and a cat in a flower costume. I’ll tell you more about that design in a second, but first … here’s the card that was inspired by a favorite mug of mine:
To build the background on my green square, I cropped a handful of leaves from the Changing Leaves Dies and coordinating Changing Leaves Hybrid Embossing Folder (the dies fit right into the embossing folder to both emboss and cut the leaves at the same time!). Here’s a look:
Here’s a look at how the dies fit right into the embossing folder:
AND you can still emboss a page of leaves without the dies inside the folder. Here’s a closer look at the texture on the leaves on my card:
The flower shape is from the Hooray for Surprises Dies – I’ve shared a link to this fun bundle at the base of this post. The sentiment and circle die used to build the sentiment are from the Unbounded Love Bundle. Here’s a look at this incredible and versatile bundle:
More about my mug – I looked up the mug in my Google machine and lifted the following from Starbuck’s website because I think it’s such a cute story: During the pandemic, artist Monyee Chau found an unusual solution to keep their cat Moro happy and out of the houseplants. It was a flower cat costume with a hood surrounded in petals from an online mystery package, and Chau found that Moro relaxed whenever he was wearing it. βWe loved dressing him up, it really calmed him down being in clothes. Most of the time we put him in clothes so that he wouldnβt mess with our plants β we have so many in our house,β Chau said.
Here’s a look at my card and the fun mug that inspired it:
Don’t you love the colors in the mug – they made me think of Balmy Blue, Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce, a beautiful mix of blues and greens. If you love this mix of colors as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
I added three Rhinestone Basic Jewels for a little shine on the card.

Thank you so much, Bette! I have been loving that mug this week and had fun with this card. So glad you like it. β₯
I ain’t lion . . . this card is adorable and a lovely connection to the mug!
Awww…thanks, Mary! I have loved that little lion for several weeks – until I learned it was a cat in a flower costume. Still so cute! Thanks for your comments.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! The card and the mug!
Thank you so much, Pam! This mug makes me so happy – so I had to believe a card could make me smile just as much. π
Oh my goodness Brian, you totally captured the likeness of your favorite cup, itβs adorable!
Thanks, Katrina! It’s a great mug (so happy!), and I’m glad to have a coordinating card. π
Love where we find inspiration for cards and see colors in the SU palette!
It’s everywhere. Always. π Thanks, Virginia!
Perfect!
Thanks so much, my friend!
I would never have thought of Balmy Blue with those bright colors, but it works! Great card!
The color on the mug was somewhere between Pool Party and Balmy Blue. The brighter blue helped the greens to pop. Thanks so much, Susan! Another favorite mug came from my breakfast with you in St. Louis.
I hope the artist sees what she inspired! Love it!
Likely not the case – but maybe she’ll Google her name one day. π
Great card. Great mug!
Thanks, my friend! β₯
I love your inspirational card! Perfection!
Thank you so much, Marilyn! I had fun with it.
