Sometimes a small thought sticks with me for long enough until it makes its way into a card. Here’s a quick, easy card I made to combine a stamp set and papers from Stampin’ Up!’s 2024 Annual Catalog and a punch from the 2024 Holiday Mini Catalog:
The “small thought” was that I wanted to turn the Humble Home punch into a big, bold arrow and feature it on a card. The arrow HAS to point to something fun, so I reached from the super-fun sentiment from the Saying Hey stamp set (I’ve wanted to feature this sentiment from the start, but this is the first playful way I found to showcase it). All of that was showcased on a beautiful, hombre page of the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (don’t you love this mix of colors?!).
Here’s a look at the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper that gave me the foundation for my arrow and fun sentiment:
And here’s a look at the Saying Hey stamp set that gave me the fun sentiment:
The big arrow is a piece of Melon Mambo I cropped with the Humble Home Punch. I snipped off the house’s chimney). Before I cropped the house, though, I covered a piece of Melon Mambo cardstock with packing tape, giving the arrow a bright shine (faux embossing). I first embossed an arrow with Clear Embossing Powder, but that deepened the color of the arrow so that it didn’t match the colors in the paper and the base of the card. Here’s a closer look:
And here’s a look at the Humble Home Bundle, which includes the Humble Home Punch:
I’ve always love the mix of orange and hot pink. The water colored blend of Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Peach Pie in this page of Designer Series Paper makes me very happy. I think there’s some Berry Burst in there, too, but the pink side is rich with Melon Mambo. If you love this mix of colors as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

Very clever! I love the colors, and that faux embossing trick is genius. 😉
It’s always a great way to add a little shine. Glad you like it! 🙂
The humble home pointer is very clever and creative. Thinking outside the box!
Thanks so much, Michelle! 🙂
So very clever! Thanks for sharing ideas!
Thanks, Windy! This arrow sat on my desk for a while before I put it into a project. Glad you like it! ♥
Visionary!! Your use of the house as an arrow is awesome! That faux embossing is genius! I usually come by to see your creative color combinations, but this proves you are the KING of cardmaking 😉.
Using what you have to do something entirely unexpected brings me such joy. Thank you for exemplifying that to the Nth degree today, Brian, and giving me two fantastic ideas along with a striking color combo.
Awww…thanks so much, Nise! I appreciate that so much. I love playing around with this stuff, and it’s always fun to find that “something different” in the ordinary. Glad you like it. ♥
Bright and beautiful colors. Sweet simplicity!
Thanks, Mary! ♥
Oh Brian – this is so you! I was trying to figure out where the arrow came
From and NEVER would have thought of using the Humble Home punch!
Great card idea instead of thinking of you and bringing a smile to someone’s face!
I love to bring a smile to your face, Barbara! Thanks so much! ♥
Dragging in to thank you for a super fun card today. It is a chilly wet dismal day here. Teddy, my basset hound threw up in his crate during the night. He went outside and did his business but before coming in did a huge gob of bloody diarrhea. He has cancer as it is but doing ok with both good and bad days. He came in and ate. I turned on by IPad and settled in. With a snap of the fingers you turned my frown upside down, I love this card. I had already thought about using the punch as an arrow but the faux embossing just put a shine to my mood. But, then you added that sentiment which is something I wish I had designed! Emitting a chuckle now. Now the wheels are spinning with the ideas. Now, I need to get busy as I need to make 40 more fall cards for a nursing home before the snow flies! I have been asked to do a card making session with some of the seniors this Friday. This will be a first for me but one that is excited for. I hope to make them smile as you did for me today. Plus, use up some DSP since they also asked I would contribute cards for bingo prizes and other activities. Wish me luck! Hugs, my fried.
Chris – I’m so happy to turn your frown upside down (even if for a short moment). Sorry you are going through so many taxing things – I pray that turns around for you and that things get easier. Always love to hear from you. This card would be perfect for your nursing home gathering. Take it easy, and swipe it. 🙂
This card is fabulous! The colors are just perfect!
Thanks, Susan! I was reaching for a different paper when I came across this one. Happy you like it! ♥
You are so clever, Brian! I love how you think outside the box and bring brilliant ideas almost daily! Enjoy your day!
I’m so happy to share, Hilda! Thanks so much! ♥
Your creativity is endless……one of my favorite cards ever! So clever!
Awww…thanks, Linda! You are too kind (and I appreciate it). ♥
Loving the cheerful color mix and the bold with the small! And today, another small cut that is a game changer!!
Total game changer, right?! That little snip made me so, so happy. Thanks, Cindie!
