Let’s Celebrate YOU

Yesterday was filled with wonderful celebration. The day started with a quarterly meeting of the accounting department. We learned about the future goals of the company and some of the amazing things the company is doing – but we also acknowledged my retirement and the retirement of a special team member who I hired 16 years ago. OF COURSE I made a card to honor Connie. Here’s the card I made for her:

The fancy fold card features a large butterfly on the front – four layers (including the butterfly body) that are cropped from the gorgeous dies in the Beautiful Butterflies Bundle. Here’s a look at this must-have bundle, which is perfect to celebrate retirement or spring or anything worth celebrating:

The panels on the outside and inside of the card (a closer look at the inside in just a few minutes) are pulled from the On the Go Designer Series Paper. I LOOOVE the Strawberry Slush designs in this pack (there are three!). Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the On the Go Designer Series Paper, which is available right now:

The front of the card says “LET’S CELEBRATE” in a big, black band (from the Simply Said stamp set). The sentiment completes itself inside the card with “YOU.” Here’s how the card opens:

If it looks like the butterfly panel just hangs there, you’d be right! The effect is really simple and really effective. Here’s how I created the effect on my card: I scored the front of the card at 1-1/4″ and then cut into the scored line, leaving about 3″ long hinge in the center of the panel. That hinge flips in the opposite direction (like a z-fold panel), and I glued the butterfly panel to that hinge. Here’s a look at this card on its side:

The butterfly base is cropped with Daffodil Delight cardstock and the vellum page from the Graceful Greenery Vellum Specialty Designer Specialty Paper. The detailed wings are cropped from Strawberry Slush cardstock, and the body is cropped from Basic Black cardstock. Together, they are quite a beauty, don’t you think?! I mounted the butterfly on a Pool Party panel from the Subtles 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper and peppered the front with Pool Party Adhesive-Backed Dots for Days.
