Be Inspired Blog Hop – Food

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun!  The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you.  I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

The theme for today’s Be Inspired Hop is “Food.”  As we get closer to the Fall Holidays, the baking mitts come out!  If you aren’t baking cookies and pies and muffins, then you are likely enjoying the cookies, pies and muffins that someone else made for you.  My card features no food, but it definitely sets the mood for Christmas baking.  If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from a visit with my adorable Aussie friend Louise Sharp at louisesharp.com.  Such a sweet, little basket of apples!

Here’s my card for today’s hop:

  • Smitten Mittens & The Little Things.  This simple card features two new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog – Smitten Mittens (a stamp set/Framelits bundle designed with sweet winter mittens) and The Little Things (a super-fun sentiment set that touches on almost all of the Fall Holidays).  I used the Many Mittens Framelits Dies to create this baking mitt (more on that in a second).  Here’s a look at the oh-so-sweet Smitten Mittens:

I used tape to mask one of the sentiments from The Little Things to just say “December deliciousness.”  I love the adorable images, but this left the sentiment clean and sweet.  I also used the band of candy cane stripes on my mitt.  Here’s a look at The Little Things:

  • From Mitten to Mitt.  I really, really wanted a baker’s mitt, but all I had was a mitten.  That’s OK.  With a couple of other items and a few simple tweaks, I was able to transform this mitten into a long baker’s mitt:  Mitten to Mitt with Stampin' Up!'s Many Mittens Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI covered the connection of the two cutouts with the strip of paper covered in candy cane stripes and accented the mitt with some festive holly from Holly Berry Happiness:Many Mittens Framelits Dies, The Little Things, Holly Berry Happiness, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, baking card
  • Fooled ‘Ya!  By now, you know how much I love to layer cardstock in thin frames with all elements centered on the card front, right?  That’s where I was headed when I made this card, but did you miss it?  Did you notice that my panel with the mitt is not centered – instead it’s positioned closer to the bottom, right corner of the card?  It’s a small change from my “usual,” but it does make a difference.  Did you notice that already?

Stamp Sets:  The Little Things, Holly Berry Happiness  Papers:  Real Red, Emerald Envy, Basic Black, Whisper White  Inks:  Real Red, Emerald Envy, Archival Basic Black  Accessories:  Many Mittens Framelits Dies, Holly Berry Builder punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I like your card. Simple but it stands out.

  2. You’re the BOMB! Christmas baking is my favourite and this oven glove is adorbs – now I want one just like it! I didn’t miss the positioning and even though my OCDness wanted to jump through the computer and fix it….it actually looks awesome like that. You rock (as always!) xo

    • Awwww…thanks, Louise. I appreciate it. I struggled a bit before deciding to position it in the corner. At least I kept my OCD in check by perfectly positioning in that corner, right? 🙂

  3. I’m charmed! Love the simple design and the sweetness of things to come (food)! Uber cool graphic, too!

  4. This is just too adorable! I bet it would look even more like an oven mitt if you embossed it with the quilt top embossing folder!

  5. Clever idea to turn the mitten into an oven mitt. But then, you are the King of Clever ideas. Enjoy your day!

  6. Too cute, I can just see you taking a pumpkin pie from the oven with that. I love it!

  7. I can see this mitt (formerly mitten) as part of a tag for a Thanksgiving hostess gift. What else – an oven mitt. Thanks for the inspiration! Anxious to go to the next stops on the hop!

  8. So clever using the mitten die! Love it!

  9. Love it my friend , just your size too, beautiful
    Tfs♥️
    Hugs Frenchie ♥️

  10. How many times can we say”Genius”, Brian I absolutely love how your brain works! This card is so fun and festive. AND…no, I had to scroll back up to see that the matting was off centered. Boy that would have been difficult for me, yet it looks great. ?

  11. Hi Brian,
Now I know that die set can be used thru out the year. Another clever idea. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

  12. So cute and creative! Will be cute card to give with Williams and Sonoma Christmas mitts and hand towels or other baking gifts-

    • Such a great idea! I’m going to have to shop and Williams Sonoma this Christmas just to have a reason to make lots of these mitts. Thanks for your comment!

  13. Ooh, I like how you changed up the frame! That oven mitt is absolutely brilliant, too! This is such a sweet project!

  14. I need to get to your blog earlier in the day. By the time I get here everything I want to say has already been said, often twice! LOL This bundle is on my next order list. Like everyone else, I love that you turned it into an oven mitt but even more that you made it with traditional Christmas colors. I also like Barbara’s idea of using the quilt top EF. It doesn’t seem to matter where you position your center layer on a card, in fact it doesn’t seem to matter what you do with a card – they all just come out amazingly beautiful. I should have such luck. LOL
    Love it.

    • You know what they say about the early bird, Grace… 🙂 Even if your comments are repetitive, I’ll take’em. 🙂 Thanks so much. This is a sweet bundle – especially for someone like you who lives in snow country. <3

  15. WOW, that is just genius Brian. Thank you for your inspiration!

  16. Super cute!
