Get Well Wishes

I love so many of the Stampin’ Up! products featured in this simple card. I love the flowers from World Treasures, I love the easy-to-apply In Color Dahlias, and there’s no secret I love my Word Window and Modern Label Punches. Together, they are simple and sweet.

The blue color doesn’t show up very well in this picture, but it’s Not Quite Navy. This is a softer shade of dark blue than Midnight Muse, a 2012-2014 In Color. I really like the combination of Not Quite Navy and Primrose Petals – feels like a modern take on downhome country (if that makes any sense).

Helpful hints and reminders:

  • Change it up. I repurposed the sentiment from World Treasures at the base of the card. The sentiment in the stamp set reads “One who finds a faithful friend finds a treasure.” While I like the sentiment, it doesn’t express what I want to express for this card – but I like the shape of its frame. Solution: the Modern Label punch lays cleanly over it, so I’m able to keep the frame but change the sentiment.
  • Work with the layout of the card. It’s so easy to fall into a “rut” on the layout of cards. I was just about to line up the two pieces in the center of the card, when I decided to “scootch” the flower at the top of the card a little to the left (but still keep it perpendicular to the base of the card) and to tilt the sentiment off the right at the base of the card. This kept the card balanced (the card doesn’t feel heavy on any of the corners or sides). A simple change that makes a difference.
  • Glue Dots are NOT difficult to use. So, here’s my big “a-ha!” moment. I’m sure you have already figured out Glue Dots, but I’m sharing this with you just in case you might not have thought through the whole thing (like me!). Glue Dots are little bits of adhesive that come in a wax-lined roll. They are perfect for adhering ribbon or small items (like the Dahlias in this project). I have traditionally stayed away from Glue Dots because I find them difficult to use – I’d transfer a Glue Dot from the roll to my finger and then from my finger to the item I am ahering, frustrated when the Dot wouldn’t come off my finger. Duh! My finger never has to get in the way – just stick the item directly onto the Glue Dot strip and then mount it on the card. Easy as can be!
