Thinking of You & A Very Special Surprise

Today’s card is based on this week’s MOJO Monday sketch challenge. I haven’t participated in a MOJO challenge for several months, but today’s sketch really spoke to me. In all its simplicity, I knew exactly which stamp and which accessories I would use when I saw this layout. I made some changes to my original plan, but I stayed mostly in-line with my plan. Here’s my card:stampwithbrian.com - Thinking of You, Friend

And here’s the sketch that inspired my project:MOJO Monday 283

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Adding Texture. I knew I wanted to use my Window Frames piercing template to add a nice appeal around this image. After I punched all the little circles, I decided to use the “other side” of the piercing to give a nice texture to the project.
  • Cheater. Cheater. Pumpkin Eater. The sketch calls for a square shape to the left of the central image. I played around with a hundred squares – red, blue, patterned, simple. I landed on a piece of vellum card stock. Cheating, no? I brushed the edges of the vellum with a sponge and some Marina Mist. I really like the look of it, and I never would have added this element without the gentle nudging of MOJO. stampwithbrian.com - brushed vellum and the other side of the piercing
  • Layered buttons. Were you just saying, “That’s all fine and nice, but Brian, what’s your favorite part of this project?” Well, let me tell you. I planned to put a big, silver button here, but I needed to add some Marina Mist to balance everything out. I grabbed my Marina Mist buttons (from the Subtles buttons) and added the small silver button on top. I tied the two up with some Cherry Cobbler Twine. Oh, I love how this turned out!stampwithbrian.com - layered buttons
