Best Wishes: Simple Layers Without a Lot of Stamping

Putting ink-to-paper is possibly the most exhilarating things on Earth.  OK, maybe it’s in the Top 5 (to put my list in perspective, #6 is when cheese bubbles over and crisps on the side of the pizza crust).  Sometimes a card doesn’t need a lot of stamping to be wonderful.  Stampin’ Up! also offers wonderful Designer Series Papers and tools to make beautiful cards and projects without a lot of ink.  Try it sometime.  Here’s a card I made, followed by step-by-step instructions on how to create this layer:Petite Pairs, Hearts a Flutter Framelits

I already warned you that there’s not a lot of stamping on this card.  Some might think this card too simple or boring, but I really find it appealing.  I think it’s BECAUSE there’s not a lot going on here – a nice change of pace.  Do you agree?

Here’s how I built the label that serves as the focal-point for this card:

  • I cropped two banners using the Hearts a Flutter Framelits Dies and pieced them together at the ends:stampwithbrian.com
  • Using the Modern Label punch, I cropped a piece of Midnight Muse and layered it on top of the Calypso Coral pieces: stampwithbrian.com, Modern Label punch
  • Then I added a Whisper White punchout from the Word Window punch:stampwithbrian.com, Word Window Punch
  • Last, but not least, I added the sentiment (punched with a 1″ Circle punch of Whisper White, layered on a 1-1/4″ Circle punch of Pool Party).  The seam of the Calypso Coral banners is covered by the 1-1/4″ circle so that the banner appears to be one feature.stampwithbrian.com, Petite Pairs

Stamp Sets:  Petite Pairs  Papers:  Calypso Coral, Midnight Muse, Pool Party, Sent with Love Designer Series Paper, Whisper White  Inks:  Calypso Coral  Accessories:  Hearts a Flutter Framelits, Modern Label punch, Word Window punch, Circle, Circle, Stampin’ Dimensionals

DON’T FORGET!  Tomorrow is the last day to order any (or all) of the items in the Sent With Love suite.  This paper is delicious, and the coordinating stamps are fantastic.  After they are gone, they are gone.  Order now by clicking HERE!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I hope you enjoyed building this card with me today because I’ve got another one prepped for you later this week!

  1. Love how you used the banner! Nice card, clean and refreshing.

  2. Brian, I’m not a fan of “fussy” cards. Some have so much going on that my eyes can’t take everything in!! I love the “simpleness” of this card. As Dianne said, it’s clean and appealing!

  3. Ah! It’s a Banner! Great card and this paper punching needs nothing more than the simple layers of card stock and dsp. I hate to repeat everyone, but I love the clean crisp look.

  4. Like all the layers…and thank you for another one of your paper crafting tips . This card could be a staple to be used for different reasons with just a greeting change . This is a good way to start a monday !

  5. great look, you make this stampin’ gig sound like fun stuff!

  6. Brian, you are so clever! Love how you pieced the banner together. And I like the simplicity of the card….less is more in my opinion! Thanks and have a great day 🙂

  7. Great card Brian. I tend to be a more is better in my card making and CAS is hard for me. I love the way you layered punches to give your sentiment some zing and the DSP keeps the ” whire space” on the card from being too plain. Great color combination also! Thanks for sharing.

  8. Great tip for the layers on the banner Brian and this card is CAS all the way for those times when you are in a real hurry, my dear daughters sometimes just give me 30 min.!! to make them a card. Thank you!!

  9. Duh, Hellooooooooo, as I am banging my head on the table. Why can’t I see the different multiple uses for SU products like Brian? Because his complex mind is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! You rocked it again my friend 🙂

  10. Brilliant!! Great idea with the Hearts a Flutter banner. Love how you showcased DSP.

  11. That is ingenious using the Hearts a Flutter to make the label base. Great card!

  12. Absolutely stunning card, Brian! I so love the way you used the banner…why didn’t I think of that? I love the way it repeats the pattern on the modern label…but then, I know you saw that!
    Kudos to you!

  13. I’m with Lisa here! Evidently I can’t see the forest for the trees or any other way my punches can be used. When you show various ways to use stamps, punches, whatever – I sit here saying “why didn’t I think of that?”! I know why – because I’m not “Brian the Brain”! LOL Thanks Brian, you are such an inspiration!

  14. Love this! I sometimes (well ok, maybe it is more frequently than I would like to admit) remember a birthday, etc. is going to be tomorrow, etc., and I really want to make a card but am really short on time. I this will be my go to card to CASE. Thanks!

  15. Could we rub shoulders with you, Brian, and get a bit of your “clever-ness”??? PLEEZ?!?!
I, too, love the “less is more” design! We so often feel as if our cards must be very detailed! It takes me too long when I do those! No wonder I never get a good stash going!

  16. Grace said “Brian the Brain”. How true that is to describe YOU!! Lovely card!

  17. Clever, clever you!!!!!! I agree that often less is more, but then there are the ‘other times’….thanks Brian….love how you created your ‘label’…..so creative!!!!
