I needed a quick-and-easy card for my Open House last week. Going into the workshop, I knew I wanted to feature Stampin’ Up!’s Mosaic Madness products (stamp set, punch and embossing folder), and I knew I wanted to showcase Core’dinations Card Stock. If you haven’t tried Core’dinations, this is your chance. With the new Annual Catalog, Stampin’ Up! offers Core’dinations cardstock in each of the four color families. Win!
Here’s the card we made in my Open House workshop:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- More about Core’dinations. The Core’dinations cardstock is an 80-pound, acid-free and lignin-free cardstock. The outside of the paper is a Stampin’ Up! color, and the inside is a coordinating monochromatic color. One side of the paper is textured, while the opposite side is smooth. You can use a sanding block to scrape away at the first layer, revealing bits of the layer beneath.
- Which side to emboss, which side to emboss. When you dry emboss regular cardstock, you have time to choose which side you want to showcase. What a fun decision – do I want to show the parts that are popping out or popping in. You have plenty of time to flip it over and over before deciding how to showcase embossed regular cardstock. With Core’dinations, though, you need to decide up-front so that you place the textured side of the paper in the folder correctly. For my card, I chose to have the images pop out and sand away at those.
- Color Combination. I lucked out on this color combination. I had some leftover Cherry Cobbler cardstock that was cut and scored for the base of the card. I also knew I wanted to use this Early Espresso Core’dinations cardstock. What color would bring the two together? I reached for my Color Coach (such a great resource for getting me out of a bind). The Cherry Cobbler tab suggested Early Espresso (check!), Cherry Cobbler (check!) and Daffodil Delight (got it!). This combination is a bit shocking but beautiful at the same time.
Don’t you love the final look of the Core’dinations paper after it’s been embossed and lightly sanded? There are so many possibilities with this paper. You’re welcome!

Yes I love it Brian & thank you! I also love how you took me through your steps in your head! Shockingly beautiful & boldly brilliant! Oh, & I really like the card too!! 🙂
Love that Mosaic folder distressed! Core’dination’s CS is a nice new element to us in paper crafting! I’m thrilled they’re making many more color options!
My Mosiac Madness Bundle will be here friday . I am looking forward to using it in several different card designs . This card is a good color combo for a masculine card . I would have not have come up with this choice on my own. That`s why I love love my Color Coach ! Believe it or not ….I just used it last night to compare shades of pink cardstock that I have on hand .
Like Sonny, I would never have come up with this color combination, it takes a creative brain like yours Brian, to imagine it and make it work. I love the “shading” look of the Core’dinations paper, it looks fantastic with the other colors. Great masculine card indeed.
I agree with Maria…and Sunny! I know, I know, yet another cop out!
Guess I need to take a double look at the Core’dinations line. I really didn’t think I would be much of a fan of it. Nice simple card.
Nice bright, colorful, catch-your-eye card Brian and that one tiny piece of bling really pulled your eye to it. Great job and I’m sure those who attended your open house had a fun time making those cards. I’m always on the watch for a quick and easy thank you card. It seems I never have one on hand when I need it. Our fearless leader does it again! LOL
Thanks for the tips with this card stock..was just about to use my alphabet press folder and sand. Great card and color combo!
I just saw Mary Fish’s blog with your charts of circle and square framelit dimensions. Do you have any others? These charts are so helpful! Needless to say, love your card, love the Core’dinations paper. To emboss or deboss — that is the question! Love you! Nancy B
